It was local, so I picked it up the day the auction ended. All the caps were there, the bores had hone marks, the crank journals look good, and the pistons and rings were new. The block is dirty from being stored for a while, and the newly machined surfaces have a bit of rust. The top deck and the oil pan surface don't look the best either. Hey, what can you expect for the price. I'm planning on having the top fly cut ever so little. I'm not sure if this will send the CR super high. Maybe combining this with a later low compression head will be the trick. We will see.
My plans for this car (79 B) are to switch to a Webber “Outlaw” down draft, headers, and modified head. I hope to be in the 105 to 110 hp range. Now that I have two motors, I will swap them every other year to get it smogged. It’s not that I want to cheat the smog laws, since I will have a working high flow cat on the Webber motor. The ZS carburetor and smog equipment absolutely don’t work. The car will be cleaner with the tuned Webber motor.
We will see.
