I found this one for sale, but it uses special relays and special connectors.
With a little more searching, I found these on Amazon. 10 relays and 10 connectors for $17 shipped

Not as slick as my original thoughts, but generic 5 connector relays that can be bought anywhere.

Couldn't find the reference on the blog but if you mean blanking the tap on the head I thought this too...but other day some guys on the MG BBS where talking about this and how it is NOT a good idea as you end up with a hot spot on the 4th piston.

No worries, I wanted to run the engine before the car was complete (call it a morale boost?) and I used a long length of heater hose to replace the heater plumbing. When I refurbish the heater it will go back in its proper place. Working heater = more convertible days!

If originality is not important in your re-wiring process you may want to also consider wiring kits from EZ-Wiring. They can offer some generic and customizable harnesses in GM color codes with functions printed on the wires to help you trace them. With the function printed on the wires, color codes are a bit less critical. Combine that with the split braided sleeving I mentioned earlier and you can have a new harness with a semi-original appearance and modern functionality for a fairly low investment. While I have not used their products, they appear to be quite common with people rebuilding classic American cars and Hot Rods.

You might take a look at bits4brits.com where I bought my BE fuse and relay box. He custom made it for me with the wiring for my application.

This is I hope not a hijack however, I will likely need a hot rod harness for the Vauxhall as I can't seem to source an original and mine are mostly wrecked. How do you determine how many circuits you need? I presume that you would want more than the original few. But, is there a way to calculate?

"Calculate" is a strong word. I broke mine down by major function and draw. I ended up with 6 circuits as shown in the attached pic. I might split the flashers and parking lights to their own fuse. and if you have a radio it would get its own.

I wanted to retro my wiring since most everything will be retro for the Healey. Contacted Road Island Wiring for a quote to build the harness with the cloth binding.,I felt that the estimate was way out of line. At the time I was working up a large order with AH Spares noticing that they offered complete harness for the car. I asked if they used Autospark and they said yes, that Autospark was the largest wiring manufacture in the UK. I layed out what I wanted for the car, after a few dozen emails later we came up with a custom harness for the Frogeye. FYI , Road Island Wiring has their harness manufacture through Autospart UK.

Here is basically what I had Autospark do to the harness, instead of the cloth insulator for the individual wires I chose vinyl.




  1. Electric speedometer
  2. Electric cooling fan (Relay)
  3. Thermo fan switch (Relay)
  4. Electric tachometer
  5. Drop external voltage regulator
  6. Voltmeter
  7. Alternator for single wire exciter
  8. Provision for six fuses
  9. Heater Blower (Relay)
  10. Head light (Relay)
  11. Provision for Odyssey PC625 light weight battery
  12. Electric pump (Relay)

Accessory outlets, not quit sure what you mean? Terminals were incorporated for the small light weight battery post on harness.
 
I have pretty much the same plans. I'd like to gut the voltage regulator and use it as a box for either some of the relays or the added fuses. I'd like to keep it semi stock looking.
