new cabin "toy"

Some of you may have seen the pics of the old pre-civil war cabin we restored on our property here in the hills of Pumpkintown.
I just ordered a new "toy' for the back porch.
3 gallon capacity will render about a 1/3 gallon of ..ahem...
spirits in about 5 hours once the "run" begins.
The pic is not exactly how mine will look as I'm having some custom work done. It's going to take several months to make due to the HUGE back orders.
Party should break out shortly after it's arrival. Stay tuned for the invite!

Re: new cabin "toy"

nice light shot
It has no power or plumbing. Never has.
I recently installed some solar lighting for a nice
moonshine effect when you open the door at night.

That would make it too easy for Roscoe and Boss Hog to spot.
Funny story:
Once when an old mountain man, now deceased, brought me some home brew the wife quite seriously said "Now I've heard of people going blind and dying from this stuff due to it being made in radiators. You tell me now if this came out of a radiator!"
Without cracking a smile ol Floyd said "Well, it was a Thunderbird radiator."
Floyd was quite the character. I miss him. He always called my wife his sweetie much to her chagrin.
Rough as a corn cob with a heart of gold. God rest his soul.

Really nice getaway!

Re: new cabin "toy"

Hi Ya`All,

The pics don`t do Gundy`s cabin justice. Its really a super neat place to hang out & do whatever!

You actually got that dang new "Toy" of yours!! You devil.

I still can see & I`m still breathing so; That "Thunderbird Radiator" stuff is really quite good.

When does the "Poker Game" start?

Regards, Russ

That is a wonderful cabin! What kind of restoration work was needed? I really like seeing the old historical building preserved.

The cabin was completely covered with vines and and plant growth. Lots of labor to just get it visible. It had been covered on the outside with old shingles at some point which probably saved the structure. Someone sought to "update"
the interior with sheetrock along the way and that probably
helped save the thing too.
The interior walls are all original as are the floors and
fireplace/chimney.
We had timbers rough cut at a local sawmill for the exterior
and had to rebuild the front porch which had rotted beyond repair. The exterior wall on the porch is original as is the door.
The original outhouse is still "functional"/standing and
is made of cedar.
The foundations are stacked stones with no cement etc.
The tin roof is probably not original but is very old and full of little holes. We sealed the holes with silicone inside/out and it doesn't leak.
I pressured washed the interior after a through "bathing" with disinfectant. Lord knows how many rats had lived there.
We hauled 10 large garbage bags of rat poop out of the walls
once the sheetrock was removed.
Bobcats had used the ceiling for a den.
We even found a HUGE King Snake living in the walls.
At some point people had used it as a chicken coop and had roosts on the back porch and chicken wire around the foundation with a hole cut in the porch floor so they could scratch under the house in safety.
Guess the local wildlife isn't too happy with our decisions.
The deer and bears still visit however.

Re: new cabin "toy"

Really nice job on the cabin! What a time capsule.

And, I'll bet a paycheck that the guy who first built that cabin also had himself a corn-likker still in the back yard.

When you take the first drink, propose a toast to the first owner of your cabin.

Maybe he'll be watching . . .
