I've been working on this one for a while...

The Blue Sprite is sitting in my driveway. It's one I've been fixing up for one of my younger brothers....I actually just got it running last month (I originally bought this car via the BCF classifieds).

Anywho, one of the guys from the local road dept was patching the road in front of my house, saw the Sprite, and asked me if I was interested in another one. As it turns out, he has a car that belonged that to his Dad, who died around 10 years ago. The car's been parked in his garage ever since. Years ago, I recall seeing the original owner in this car, when he was in his 70s. He's actually one of our local town Fathers and the local baseball field is named in his honor.

The car is a '70 1275 MG Midget in real nice shape. Dark green (but not quite BRG). Split rear bumper and side lights. Body is excellent and the car is unmolested. It has wire wheels, which I'm not crazy about, but it comes with 5 spare wire wheels. I had to negotiate with the original owner's daughter who knows cars fairly well (she has a Porsche 911S). We've been going back and forth for 2 weeks, but we finally settled on $500 (USD) which I think is fair.

I'm not keeping the car. I'm passing it on to my brother after I clean it up...it's much better than the Blue Sprite and it will be a nice easy project for him to work on while he recuperates (he's having heart surgery pretty soon).

I have kind of a neat, alternate plan for the Blue Sprite (now that I'm not giving it away). I'll let you folks know about that later.

I'm leaving for a week-long cruise to Nova Scotia tomorrow from NYC (crossing my fingers that Hurricane Charley doesn't wreck our trip). When I get back, I'll post some pictures of the new Midget.

Have A bon ( and safe) Voyage - I'm right in the path of the bugger her in Greensboro, NC, but Sunday the family's going Southeast to the coast at Emerald Isle for a week - Guess we'll get to ride her out on Saturday, but Sunday it'll be on it's way up the eastern seaboard -

Hope your cruise goes off without incident!! Post some pics of Nova Scotia!

OK, as promised, here's the "new" car.
The cruise was excellent: I have never eaten so much or been so pampered. Great fun watching the harbormaster's Pilot boat come alongside and see the harbormaster jump onto our ship to steer it in or out of port (we saw this six times). Halifax and Saint John are nice little towns with interesting history. I saw exactly one LBC (in Halifax): an Austin "London-Cab" (but plenty of double-decker busses). Along the way, we saw whales, dolphins and even a pair of Navy F-14s gave us a 5 minute air-show! We were on the Carnival Victory (4400 folks on board including passengers and crew). Well recommended!
And I have even returned with an added nephew! (born the day we left). My older daughter bought a house while we were away too....no grass growing under this gang!

Thanks guys.
It's a good job I like my relatives..it would be tempting to keep this car for myself.
My brother who's getting this (Paul) has a twin brother (Mark). Mark writes me a note today: "Hey Nial, how about getting me one those too?"
Oh dear. I told him he'd have to share this one with Paul (they live 3000 miles apart). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Bruce.....how about adding a "0" to the right side of your offer? Then I can afford to get an LBC for each of the twins. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

good deal! i would rather have bought that for 500 than taking my midget home for free. My free midget is a 5/10
