I've been working on this one for a while...
The Blue Sprite is sitting in my driveway. It's one I've been fixing up for one of my younger brothers....I actually just got it running last month (I originally bought this car via the BCF classifieds).
Anywho, one of the guys from the local road dept was patching the road in front of my house, saw the Sprite, and asked me if I was interested in another one. As it turns out, he has a car that belonged that to his Dad, who died around 10 years ago. The car's been parked in his garage ever since. Years ago, I recall seeing the original owner in this car, when he was in his 70s. He's actually one of our local town Fathers and the local baseball field is named in his honor.
The car is a '70 1275 MG Midget in real nice shape. Dark green (but not quite BRG). Split rear bumper and side lights. Body is excellent and the car is unmolested. It has wire wheels, which I'm not crazy about, but it comes with 5 spare wire wheels. I had to negotiate with the original owner's daughter who knows cars fairly well (she has a Porsche 911S). We've been going back and forth for 2 weeks, but we finally settled on $500 (USD) which I think is fair.
I'm not keeping the car. I'm passing it on to my brother after I clean it up...it's much better than the Blue Sprite and it will be a nice easy project for him to work on while he recuperates (he's having heart surgery pretty soon).
I have kind of a neat, alternate plan for the Blue Sprite (now that I'm not giving it away). I'll let you folks know about that later.
I'm leaving for a week-long cruise to Nova Scotia tomorrow from NYC (crossing my fingers that Hurricane Charley doesn't wreck our trip). When I get back, I'll post some pictures of the new Midget.
