Need Direction on Directionals

Hi All,

Well, I wish I could follow CarNut’s advice and not focus onwhat ain’t broke but what do you do when you’re not sure?

Sunday afternoon I took my BJ8-P1 for 2 hours drive and onthe way home the left directional dash indicator seemed to follow a differentbeat. When activated, the leftdirectional indicator blinked brightly for of a couple of times, then seemed tobe normal and as expected followed by a few weak blinks and then missed a beat. This cycle continues to repeat withregularity, however, external front, rear, and converted reflector lightsperformed bright and with appropriate regularity. Switching to the right directional, the dashdirectional replicated the left, yet again, the outside lights performedproperly.

The BJ8-P1 wiring is similar to the BJ7 and differs fromsome prior 3000s and 100/6s by having 2 dash directional indicators. Since each dash directional lights withoutleaking through and faintly illuminating the opposite dash light, I expect the groundconnections associated with each are connected. Additionally, since part of the flashing cycle provides bright dashlight illumination seems to show that power is getting to the dash lights. Also, since the external lights flashbrightly and, with regularity, it seems to indicate that the Flasher andFlasher Relay seem to be functioning properly.

Before I go through the **** of taking things apart and since this is the first indication of a POSSIBLE component or connection failure, I wouldappreciate any direction and/or suggestions.

Thank for your help,
Ray(64BJ8P1)

Thanks Derek.

I have not fund any issues with any connectors and all seems clean and in good working condition. Although my flasher is performing properly on the outside lights, I am wondering if the contact within, that provides power through the "P" connection to the dash directional lights, may be the problem. Since the Lucas flasher is a sealed unit, I will have to draw a conclusion from testing the voltage with a multi-meter or finding a replacement to try. However, there is no way I will be getting close to the actual dash lights after the problems experienced with those plastic arrows in the past.

Thanks again,
Ray(64BJ8P1)

Today, I decided to test the connection to the dash indicators and placed my multi-meter to the "P" terminal and saw voltage cycling through 3 or 4 different levels. I assumed that this would be reflected of the cycled lighting levels appearing at the dash indicators, however, when looking at the indicators, the lights were bright and blinking consistent. I hate when a fault I am tracking disappears but also somewhat thankful it was not a major problem as I still am not sure the issue will not return. I am partial to the cause being the flasher and will acquire a replacement just in case.
