ok, so this is a bit of a strange development. As I was flipping through the moss catalog, I realized that there should be a washer between the hose and slave cylinder. Strangely enough, the previous owner had not used one, but moss sent me one with my hose - though it was in a different envelope with some other parts and I didn't realize it was for the hose till now ( just checked the part #)

While I'm not holding my breath that the washer will suddenly make everything work, do you think lack of the washer could have led to the slave cylinder blowing in the first place?

Not likely, IMO. That washer is just a seal 'tween hosepipe end-fitting and cylinder. Better to have it than not, but if it isn't leaking, that's not the...waitaminnit!..

I'm turnin' this into a "poll" of sorts: Would the missing washer at the slave allow the system to SUCK air but not LEAK on pedal app?!?!

maaayyyybbbee.....but not likely methinks. I have heard of strange ones (like internally collapsed front brake hoses that don't leak!!!).

I've HAD collapsed hoses. Fronts, rears, MG's, Jags... More common than you'd think. I wuz just speculating with the air sucking thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously don't think that the washer would have any effect on this, installing it would probably cause far more problems than it would fix.

I vote no prob, washer is for leakes, if no leaks install it next time you have the hose off.
