need carburetters for 1967 Austin Healy MK III

I just purchased a 1967 Healy Mk III 3000 in pretty decent condition. It has been sitting for 15 years and the Carbs are missing ( were sent out for rebuild and never returned) My first project is to get a pair of 2" carbs. Someone told me ones from a Jag will work however I do want to keep it correct. I see Moss offers some, are they any good ( should be for $1500) I wouldn't mind some rebuilt ones for less. I then need to tackle the brakes and clutch as neither work from sitting. I assume the slaves need rebuilding.

I found it locally, just stumbled across it, have been looking for a long time. body is cherry and interior is original and mint. All I need to put it on the road is carb's, brake work Slave) and clutch work(slave)And it could use tire as these are dry rotted. I tring to convert to an alternater in place of the Generator and reverse the polatity at the same time(no Radio)will ad pictures later.

Ronnie the carbs for your car are the SU HD8, that is a 2 inch carb with diaphragms.
These were also used on some Jaguars and Rovers, and while the needles may be different they should be basically the same units.
Try ebay or used part ads, or post your question on the Healey board to see if anyone can help.
Simon.

Hi Ronnie,

Congrats on the Healey. What are you looking for, a set of carbs to rebuild or a new set?

If I were going to buy a new set I would get them from Burlen https://www.burlen.co.uk/ as they are the current manufacturer of SU. They are listing a set of SU HD8 AUD124 which are correct for your car for £575.00. That converts to $1,050.74 at today's exchange rate.

Watching eBay patiently will turn up a used set, or join and post an email to healeys@autox.team.net as well the the Austin-Healey forum here and I will almost guarantee someone will have some for sale.

Good Luck

Thanks guys. I don't have any carbs as the old owner sent them out for rebuild 5 years ago and never got them back?? I know I need the HD8'S and want to keep it original. I understand that the Jags don't have diaphrams. I know about new ones at Moss for $1500 and the ones in the UK for about $1295 plus shipping to USA. I thought if I could find a set of used and have them rebuilt or $175 exchange that this route would work the best. I have checked Hemmings and Ebay and found nothing. I don't want to wait too long as I am anxious to get it on the road. Still looking! Thanks, you are all a bunch of great guys. I just joined the two USA clubs and can't wait to get started.

Hi Ronnie,

You could check with all of the SU carb rebuilders to see if they have a rebuilt set for purchase with no exchange. The following site has rebuilders listed if you scroll down. https://www.teglerizer.com/sucarbs/

Also, you might get more action on your request here if you post in the Healey forum (this is the MG forum!) No big deal .. one of the moderators will probably move this thread or you can start a new one.

Cheers,
John

HI Ronnie, I would give British Car Specialties, Healey surgeons and Hemphils Healey Haven a call and see if you can not pick up a set of rebuildable core carbs.---FWIW--Keoke
