Having looked at the number of seconds separating those final bids leads me to the following conclusion. The winner was using a bid snipe and forgot to have a limit set for a worst case scenario (which then proceeded to play out). The $4k bid might even have been typed-in in the 'heat of the moment'. Makes for a good story over coffee at the office.
