Mystery switch

I have a question. On my wiper switch on my 71, it moves up and down for wiper speed, if you push in on the handle it runs the washer pump. Also you can move the handle forward and backward it snaps forward and back. I took this switch apart and cleaned it and put a bit of conductive silicone grease in it and confirmed there is a set of contacts that are made when the handle is pulled back. The colors of the wires going to it are white(ingition on hot) and yellow. I have not found a yellow on any wiring diagram. I am just wondering what its for? Again its not a momentary but a dual position switch on the wiper stalk just like the headlight dimmer switch on the turn signal stalk. If this is just some extra switch that is not used then it would be excellent for a backup light switch since I have the datsun transmission and had to remove the b/u switch for it to fit.

Yeah, wonder if it's a PO move, making an MGB switch fit or something. That switch for OD was installed whether a car had OD or not.....
But I do like Mark's idea better.

Nitrous?

Ohhhh, Nitrous............makes big noises.

Two position? Machine guns AND ejection seat!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Well, seeing as I still have the sides off the steering clumn and can get to it, I am going to trace that yellow wire and see where it leads. I have already put in a switch under the dash for my b/u lights. The better idea (at least for me) is to use it for an electric cutout for the exhaust that I plan on making. One way it will be super quiet, the other will be a straight pipe out the back. I can do this sort of thing since the car won't have to be inspected.

I used that for my driving light switch, I think that is what they intended.

I traced it to the large plug where the wiper switch plugs into the harness and fond that the yellow and white did not cross to the harness. They end there. I cut them loose from the plug and attached connectors for future use. Everyone can use an extra switch. Billm where did you mount driving lights?
