Probably not. Certainly the skins are different where the handles and locks go. A good body shop can repair the inner shell then place a new door skin over it. A and B post damage also repairable but more challenging.

I would have liked to seen pictures of what a $4,500 door repair job started out as.

I`m going to a Car Show tomorrow; "Britfest" in NJ:

Bandaged Door and All; Who Cares!!

I`ll have a digital with me and will take some pics of the Damaged Door: The Dollar Amount, In My Opinion, sounds worse than what it is but; Keeping in mind, you cannot purchase a replacement Door therefore the Ins. co. has to go with an Hourly Repair: I believe that figure is somewhere around $60.00 + hr:

Also; Please keep in mind; I am Not "Disappointed" with their Estimate or would even think about Questioning It!!

Well; I got 3rd place @ Britfest / Bashed in Door etc: Here`s a "Poor Pic" of the Door: You really can`t see the Damage as the Suns Rays were directly on the Door (No Shadows):

If you look closely; You may see the Crease by the Front Pillar: The Door got hit directly on the Door Handle & Pushed everything in from there:

You are a lucky guy. I was sitting in my 6 in the late 70's when a van backed into me. Crushed the outer anb inner door inward, braking glass all over my lap. In your case, if the available door skins are of decent quality, you're on your way. Otherwise, a bunch of hammer and dolly work.

If possible, I would be interested in following your progress on this repair.

Oh, congrats on 3rd place.

Uh, Russ, don't you feel a bit guilty accepting that much money for a door? Whose appraiser what this? "Theirs" or "yours"? For that kind of money, you should be able to fly to England with the car and watch as a skilled panelbeater dusts off the old dies and stamps out a new one for you, then fits and paints it to match! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

1st; TR6Oldtimer; I`ll keep you abreast of the Progress: Currently talking to two friends of mine relative to the Repairs: I did pick up another door but Frankly Its a bit too rusty in some spots (It`ll be hammer & dolly work for sure): Nothing Personal Ben:

Andrew: "Feeling Guilty"?? "No Way in heck"!! As I had mentioned; I`ve pd in to the same Co. for over 30yrs without Incident or Claim of any sort for any of My Cars: In My Opinion; "I`m Due"!!

As Bidder mentions above; "Don`t Worry; They`ll get it back"!! You can Bet on It!!

At first when seeing the extent of the damage, I too thought $4500 was a generous settlement. But then, I thought about it. No insurance company gives money away, so there must be more to this then what we see here.

Keep in mind that in addition to the door sheet metal repair, it needs painting. If it were my car, at the minimum, I would insist the whole side of the car was repainted. My preference would be to repaint the entire car.

All that said, if it where all labor, at $60/hr that's 75 hours, a lot of time for your everyday run of the mill commuter car, but not for collectible restored TR. Remember, in the auto body business you get what you pay for. Less money, more bondo, and on and on...

No matter what, it does no one any good to question a settlement made in good faith, and anyone who questions this settlement, I certainly would not want representing me in a claim.

So when the time comes to put my car back on the road, I know what insurance company I will be talking to.

Russ. Hope you can use the door if ya really need to. If it's really not gonna work in any way shape or form, and ya don't wanna re-sell it (I bet it's go for at least what you paid on ebay. Probably more) I'd be open to working with ya.
BTW. It was great meeting you. Always good to put a face to the name.

Ben; Relative to the Door; "No Problem": I`m not going to use it as there is just too much rust along the Bottom of the Door: It`ll take the same amount of time, If not less, to Strip, Hammer and Beat the Door to Death & Repaint, than to attack the Rust Situation: I`m going to keep it just as a "Spare Tire" in case someone else feels like using my car for "Target Practice"!

Ray; "Thanx" for Your Opinion: Your Correct in thinking that there is more to this Picture than what you see! As I had mentioned; Its a really "Poor" pic of what the Damage actually is:

The Door will be removed from Car / Stripped to bare (Inside & Out)/ Many hrs in hammering etc / Block & Wet Sands (No Orange Peel) / Then Re-Painted; Got paint scanned & Its a "One Stage" & will have at least Two coats of "Very Expensive Clear":

Rather then beat the damaged door out, have you considered a new skin? The ones for the 6 are of good quality. I do believe they are still available for the 4. A lot less time and money to have a skilled body guy put on the new skin then to make a lot of noise pound way.

Moss sells them for ~$180 plus shipping. Get one and take a look to see if the quality meets your needs. If not, send it back and all you are out is shipping.

In fact I`ve looked into TRF and they have avail what they call a Doorskin for a TR250/TR6! I know they`re not the same nor definitely not a TR4 Skin:

I`m glad you mentioned Moss cause I looked thru their Catalog & "Missed It"! I just looked and $157.00:

I`m about an Hour from Moss in Dover, NJ: I`m calling tomorrow and see if they have one in Stock; If not, To go ahead and get one In to take a Look at:

Ironically; I just rec`d an Email from one of the BCF Brothers who has a New Door Skin! Waiting for some Pics, cost etc:

My TR is due for Surgery this coming Mon. So, I need to move Quickly:

With exception of some differences in lock hardware the TR4 thru TR6 doors are identical. The TRF TR250/TR6 skin will fit your TR4.

Ironically, This Morning a Gent I know out in Ohio had asked if I found a Door? My reply was Yes but I`m going to use the existing door (Per My Body Shop Tech`s advice):

He inturn just happens to have a Brand New Skin since God knows when!

Just waiting for a Pic or Two & I`ll probably go for It:

Whats the Quality of a Moss Skin Like?
