My Apologies

I was reprimanded about the post I made regarding
Captain America.
I viewed it after going out to dinner with the family.
It was done in innocense - nothing political.
If I offended anyone - my apologies.
I think that I might get on other Forum member's
nerves time-to-time,& I apolgise for that also.
I enjoy your company,& even though I'm not as talented
as most members (or have as much knowledge),I love this place.

Sincerely,

- Doug

Doug, its no big deal! Just because I closed the thread, don't consider that a reprimand! No no no...I just try to keep politically charged issues off the forum. It keeps things lite and helps to keep everyone one on good terms who otherwise might not be. That post, while innocent enought on its face, had the potential to become a hot potato due to the political reasons behind the Marvel Comic's decision. It would have been difficult or impossible to discuss that topic without delving into the political aspects. Hope you understand.

Basil

I didn't find it offending whatsoever and I'm sure everyone would agree. You merely posted the sad news that a childhood character has been discontinued. I doubt anyone would see that as a political, but there is always the risk of someone coming along who likes to turn even innocent posts into a debate.

I just want to know one thing? Being from Canada, What's Politics? Dave

Hey, Doug...if I got upset everytime Basil closed one of my threads or sent me a PM about one, well.....

& I probably would've been the one to say something I shouldn't've; so, don't worry about it1

One more time with feeling - Doug's post was NOT offending per se. Yes, it is sad to see a childhood icon meet his end, which on its face seems an innocent enough topic. If they had simply killed him off for some innocuous, benign reason or because they felt they just wanted to go in another direction that would be one thing. But if you read the story behind it, as I did, you would know that the reason the Marvel Comic Book folks did what they did was to make a very specific and VERY political statement about the country, the government, the war on terror, etc, etc. I appreciate that you "doubt anyone would see it as political" - however, I did see it as political. Not the post on its face, but as soon as I read the article describing why Marvel did what they did; that is to say for specific political reasons.

You could not have read that article and not seen the political nature of the entire topic of Capt America's demise. It would have been impossible to expect all of the thousands of forum members who might want to comment on the demise of Capt America to do so without commenting about their reasons - which would invariably become a political discussion. Whether I agree with their reasons or not is a moot point, I simply try to stay away from political or controversial topics on BCF (which is why you don't hear me talking about my views on Global Warming, for example). This has been my policy from day one and it is, I believe, a large part of why this forum functions as well as it does and why people who are probably polar opposites politically get along so well here. One of the difficult things about being β€œin charge” of anything is that sometimes one must make decisions which are not always fully understood or popular.

Regards,
Basil
