T-Series My 59 MGA... Basketcase

Long story short this car has been in or around my family since it was 7 years old. Its known history starts with a little roadster that was bought by my father's friend in 67 I believe. He tootled around in it for a while until he blew the 2nd engine in it. Then my Grandfather purchased the car and got it running again then drove it around for a bit until my mother wanted it. So my pop bought the car for her and not too long afterwards I came along. Some of my earliest memories were of speeding down the street in that little car with the top down. I still remember the smell of that car and periodically I get a wiff of it now and then when I have to move it. THe car blew it's motor the final time sometime in 1980 or 81 and has sat ever since.

THere was a reviaval back in 86 or so where my pop and brother were planning on restoring the car and bought a ton of parts for it. but it never went together. the most they did was rebuild the brakes, put new tires on her, give her a stunning shot of red paint and send the motor out to be rebuilt. Unfortunately not long after my grandparents came ill the business took a nosedive and the motor was forgotten. We never saw it again. So without a heart the car has been moved to and fro with just me piecing it together in my mind.

Anyways here she is... 22 years ago.

BUILD THAT PUPPYDAWG!!!!!

Oh boy, complete but for engine. All the hard stuff is there. What a deal.

Looks like a great base for restoration. If you need to see a complete car for reference, feel free to stop by. Good luck!

Hey, just like mine, except for the lovely family history... and a little rust!

Two engineless 59 MGAs - and everyone says the engines are the easy bits to find.

Plus, I think you should go easy on the term "basketcase". You saw the picture of mine right?

Seriously though, you have a radiator, muffler, carbs, spare tire, and attached front fenders - way ahead of the basketcase curve. Just don't show my wife that walnut dash! The seller of mine has found all the gauges and I will be picking them up this weekend. He claims to know where the carbs are and there are rumours of more parts to come!

Yes I did, And yours makes mine look almost like a concours quality car. But looks can be decieving, I'm going to have to pull the car completely apart clean up what I can and put it all back together. I'm hoping to build everything around a stable powerplant.

OK...ship the car back east here...we have engines with rusted cars to put in her and make her all better again LOL

Just wish you guys were closer...I've got old 1500 engine/transmissions that might be buildable.

With the shipping costs posted on that other thread, shipping this might be feasible if the base price was right.

I need to learn more about those costs - gotta be something else that makes it hard to ship.

That does look like a nice body.

Yea most of the body work was done 22 years ago along wiht the paint. but since then there has been a few things that have banged into the sides of her but never the actual body. Whomever did the body work seemed to be pretty top notch, there was a good sized dent in the rear that shows no trace of being there.

Great car with some great history. I was raised in a BritCar family. I came home from the hospital on the back shelf of a 63 B' (try that these days). I remember tooling around in my Mom's Midget and her Bugeye. Too bad more kids came along and those great cars went down the road. I guess that is why I have held tight to my 65 B. Even though she doesn't look like much, she has outlasted a wife and a couple of girlfriends. I hope you keep us updated.
