MGC murder to the MGC

It's advertised as a '69, but it looks to me like it only has two wipers!! If I had a 'C, I certainly wouldn't do that with it!!

Wire wheels on a V8? Not for long the torque of that motor is sure to tear apart those splines. My opinion that is not much more than a parts carand not a desirable one at that

Yes - I saw this car a couple of days ago. WHAT A SHAME! If you look closely at the interior photo - you can tell they butchered the transmission tunnel to fit the non-stock transmission and bell housing. The hole in the hood is a stock condition to the C - there is a missing body panel that fills that opening, since the C had to have a "bubbled" hood to conceal the 6 cyl. This piece would be painted the same as body, with a piece of bright trim outlining the perimeter of the "hole" - no hole if original.

Sorry Lyle that ain't right, the bonnet (hood to you guys) is a onepeice pressing including the nosing of the bulge, there is a step immediately behind the trim strip, I think it is for stiffening and to line up with the rear of the radiator seal but the bonnet is one piece.

I saw the car you guys were mentioning on the ebay website and took one look and walked away. There would be so little left of the original car after undoing the bodging (if that is what you wanted to do) and so few of the MGC unique parts left that it isn't worth the effort unless you wanted to tidy it up and run it in it's hot rodded form.

While most MGC mechanical bits are still available you have to hunt for them, and some are getting mighty scarce. The unique front end panels, apart from the bonnet, haven't been available for years. I speak with some experience on this, check out the members rides for photos of my MGC GT.

At the same time I looked at this wreck there was another much nicer automatic white car on offer which, if the blurbs are correct, I hope will go to a nice home. The difference in asking prices ($2.5K vs $7K)reflects the difference in condition.

regards

Tom

that is aweful. I don't think that one is going to get restored to stock.

Hey guys
I was looking on ebay yesterday and spotted this MGC. If you know anything about the MGC they only made them for three years from 1967-1969, i think only about 10,000 MGC and MGC GTs where made. Thy MGC is just a MGB but with a 2912cc inline 6. This car on ebay had a V-8 in it. I know I like the power of the V-8 but putting it in a pretty rare car like this is murder. Not only does this car have a V-8 in it, it also has an automatic transmission. Who has an automatic sports car? I don't think a sports car would be any fun with an auto. I just want to see what are you guys think here in the MG part of the forum. Here is the web site:

I can't figure out how to make a hyperlink to just click on this site and go to it. If you know how just put it up so the hyperlink works. thanks
Eric

the body is probably worth the asking price. I am infavor of doing what you want with your own car, but personally I don't feel that I would have hacked up a C. If someone is going to buy it to restore they will have a hard time undoing what has been done. I personally hate the hole in the hood

What do you do with a car for which there is no title?

The laws vary by state, but yes virginia you can get a title to an untitled car.

That C isn't worth fixing. Wouldn't mind 7 for the white one if it wasn't an automatic.

Yes and No....

Yes it is a darn shame to put a V-8 in a C, but...
No...there were a few orginal Automatic C's made. I saw one very orginal at the Gettysburg show last year that was one of the finest MGC's I have ever seen! There have been a few Automatics come up for sale from time to time and they always bring top dollar...but personally, I wouldn't want anything but my good ole four speed and overdrive in my B ;-))

On the other hand the C might make an interesting car if someone did it right. There was a Spitfire GT6 coupe that someone put a very healthy chev V-8 into and made into a pro-street car running around Columbus, OH a few years ago. It was VERY well done...I still wonder what ever became of that car.

BTW, I wasn't saying that an automatic MGC wasn't worth owning, just that like you I'd prefer a four speed.
