Mt. Olive Kosher Dill Pickles

I went out a bought myself a whole gallon of Mt. Olive Kosher Dill Pickles the other day (you guessed it, they are cheaper that way) and the jar says to refrigerate after opening. My wife thinks I am nuts, but I love those things...

So she says, "How you gonna get them things to fit in the refrigerator?"

A conundrum for sure.

Soooo, I called Mt. Olive in North Carolina and talked to this little lady with the cutest Southern accent and she saved my day. No, I don't have to refrigerate my Kosher Dill Pickles.

Whew!

It is a slow news day here, fellas.

mehheh. Yeah, th' brine keeps 'em safe.

Lord Admiral Nelson not withstanding... that was brandy.

You don't have to refrigerate but the taste will become more sour as they will continue to ferment... I could use a good sour dill pickle about now.

You aren't really trying to tell me you can't find a kosher dill in Jerusalem? :jester:

Try the lower east side

When I was a kid, we could go to the local butcher shop and buy a kosher dill for 5 cents, right out of a wooden barrel. They were the size of a regular cucumber. At times, that would be my lunch. Man I love those things! PJ

Guss' Pickles, been there many times in the past but it looks like they are operating out of New Jersey now.

Guss's has been a staple on the lower east side for a century... it was sold and because of litigation there has been a change of the name. See the article: https://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/07/05/the-great-lower-east-side-pickle-war/
If you've been to Guss's many times, you must be a pickle maven
