TR6 More Questions TR6 motor rebuild

OK really it is my TR250, but it is the same as the early TR6 motor.

I have a couple questions, first, the single roller chain for the cam looks pretty wimpy to me, is going to the later double roller an advisable upgrade?, is it bolt on or do you need some machining done the the crank?


Second, I see the later TR6s have a dual downpipe manifold, I think I can pick one of these up from a freind for little or nothing, does the dual downpipe manifold breath better, looks like they used it on the TR5 so my guess is yes. I need to replace the whole exhoust system from the manifold back anyway, so no issue there I don't think, also does it bolt right up or do you need the later head? Is the later head better or worse from a performance standpoint?

Don't know about the chain, but the later exhaust manifold is an improvement over the old. And yes, unlike the later intake manifold, the exhaust will bolt to a TR250 head. (I have a 250 engine in a 73 TR6)

The later TR6 heads and intake manifold is reported by many to be an improvement over the older design. Although I do not know if you would notice the difference on a stock engine.
 
to all you guys who have rebuilt motors,and I do say took the time to do it right, many have had successful rebuilds and some have had to say the least issues, and definately were not their faults at all,,,, I am one that wanted to pull the motor in my TR6 and go thru it and build a strong, reliable power plant and like all here pay the price to have it done with quality parts, and now I am thinking as long as it cranks up, runs well and doesnt smoke, I might be better off just leaving it alone. I think my dad finally rubbed off on me

I could not agree more. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
 
If you want to build a motor, find a spare and build it. Then, should anything happen, you have a good backup.
