More Fodder for the Rumor Mill

Hmmm....at best, I'm ambivalent about the overall "design" depicted. Nothing -- not even the 1960s smooth block letters -- really says "Triumph" to me. But that's purely personal. (I can't really tell if the round emblem in the center of the grille is supposed to be the Triumph "world" emblem or not, but that doesn't help.)

What really puzzles me, though, is the use of the old 1930s Triumph "script" logo in the number plate areas. As a car manufacturer, Triumph pretty much surrendered that logo to the motorcycle when the motorcycle business was sold off in the mid-1930s, and it has continued to be the logo for the motorcycles to this day!

Now that's good reason for another garage. I actually kind of like that design.

Here are the photos

As I read that article, those pictures are the magazine's mock-up pictures, nothing from BMW. And the article also didn't actually say BMW was definitely bring back Triumph, only that they were considering it. So, basically, nothing new reported here.

I agree with Andrew, what is depicted there doesn't really say Triumph to me either. But I'll be awful surprised if anything BMW actually comes up with will. Can't wait for a MINI SUV though /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

The youth of today will like this car as much as the youth of my day (me) loved the TR's

Design hints from the TR4 that I see:

The upturn of the beltline behind the door.
The headlight "pods".
The fins.

And the front fender downturn and bead of the TR3 - nice.

Very subtle. Not bad, actually, to me. We'll see...

I think the back looks a LOT like this one.

I agree with Alana. The rear quarter view is a lot like a Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice.

Somehow I don't believe it.

Like Andy, the first thing I noticed was the Motorcycle style logo. As the article points out, BMW does not own the logo?

Also, this looks alot like the BMW Z3 and Z4. Why would they want to cut into their own market?

The design looks fabulous to my eye. But I would rather have a TR6.

The rear is definely Solstice/Skye. The front reminds me of Cadillacs. Either way, this looks very GM to me. I don't get alot of styling cues from earlier TR's, which is OK. If BMW wants to stay true to the marque, then rugged low cost performance, simply made, should be the goal. Forget all of the wiz-bang electronics that BMW loves. Keep It Simple Stupid. (KISS principle)

I think it should be positioned head to head with the Miata/MX-5, not a premium brand. Triumphs were always at the lower end of the price scale. They gave alot of performance for the buck, but they were always very affordable.

BMW made a significant profit on the MINI and their marketing campaign was brilliant. Make that a HUGE profit.

I can't imagine why they won't try another marque resurrection campaign. If not Triumph, probably another marque. Maybe a limited release in England?

There's too much money to be made, and they have a tremendous track record behind them.

Who will be the first from here to buy the "new" Triumph??? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Jut an artists rendition. Not even a BMW artist, but one from the auto mag! Definatly looks like a TR4-ized Solstice to me.
Kinda neat. Lots of TR4 styling in there. The front edge of the bonnett, the trunk lid, taillight outline, I can definatly see what the artist was drawing from.
We'll see... We'll see..
It really dosen't matter, It's just another new car using a beloved old name to sell it.

The Triumph name is apparently still on the minds of the mass's BUT one difference is that its becoming attached to the minds of the executive set now maybe finally moving up the chain of command & into the board room.,where it may get better attention hopefully. We here and in the LBC forums have got to keep up the interest and show the investment bigwigs they have a sleeper here & to KEEP PUSHING THE ENVELOPE.Basil is really doing his small part like offering the calender which i intend to buy when its introduced, and to celebrate the Mk at the car shows.A NEW TRIUMPH on the road will advertise itself....BUT very important aspect IS it needs its own distintive character & design and not look so much like what we see in the Solstice/Sky...End of rant,Sorry guy's.

Yep, you can't make a classic simply by badging it, but I must say, the new Mini is true to form... and a heck of a lot of fun to drive. BMW is a wonderful car company, and should they decide to build a Triumph, it will have great character and superb performance at a premium price.

Hey, I has a 600. I loved it.Kept my mechanic in boat payments.
