Wanted MK2 - Please, help needed

Sorry, Larry, just a question:
is it "normal" that the plate has the "DN" suffix (the car *has* the overdrive), but there is NO "DN" punched on the chassis??

Thanks again and regards!

H

The chassis # will not have the extra #s or letters of the plate. Plate was added after the body, engine, trans, od , and axles were installed. The DN might be a designation of overdrive or country delivered from. I have a plate from France with the word France on it, so I will have to look up when I have time.

DN designates Overdrive option. Only option available besides automatic transmission. Sunroof was dealer installed option.

Sorry, Larry, one more question (You are always very very kind):
entering the car, there was a very slight stale smell. I thought it might be the ceiling (headliner).
Is there a way to clean it, without substituting it? Could I use some hot-water upholstery washer or is it dangerous to use hot water?
Do You recommend some cleaner and microfibre towel? Can I rub it or will I ruin the headliner, tearing it apart?
Thanks and regards!

Put a pan of white vinegar on the floorboard or a bag of charcoal briguets (open bag ), close doors and windows a leave alone for a few days. Or, if in a garage, open windows. Will go away with time in the air. Might even leave in driveway in the sun with windows down. Use leather creme cleaners and renewers on leather only.

Dear Larry, dear All,

good afternoon.
Next week I'll go to have a ride on the MK2 and, in case everything is ok, purchase it.
I am really excited!

I would like to do 2 things as soon as I get the Jag:

1) A full service to the Car: oil, air filter, oil filter, spark plugs. Do You recommend anything anything else?
Please: I need to have the specs of the best oil, oil filter and air filter, as well as the spark plugs.
Can You, please, point me to the best brands for the MK2 and (in case) identification numbers? Where can I buy them?

2) The wire wheels will need a bit of maintenance to come back to shine: what can I use? The rust on the wires is very low, but there is some
brittlement on the spinner. Is there a brush or something that I could use on a drill? Some sort of drill brush with some spray/cream product?

Thanks in advance and best regards!!

Follow reccomended oils and fluids on data plate on fender. I have no clue what you have in your area for what you want.

Thanks.
And for the brittlement on the spinner and the (little) rust on the wire wheels? What would You recommend?

Non-abrasive cleaner and polish using toothbrush and wiping clean wth soft cloth.

Dear Larry, dear All,

good afternoon.
TOMORROW, I’ll go to test the Jag, I’m so so excited!!!

I am planning to do this, please, let me know Your suggestions:
1) look carefully below the car and inside the hood;
2) start the engine and let it run for 20-30 minutes in idle, and check leakages and so on;
3) go for a 45-60 minute ride and then check back leakages from basement, differential, radiator and brakes.

During the run, I plan to carefully listen to potential ticking noise from engine/transmission and check the steering wheel.

Do You have any other suggestion on what to check?

THANKS in advance and my very best regards!!

Herger

Things you said.

Any update?

Thanks, Larry!
Sorry for the late reply.
Not yet: we have postponed the final test due to (terribly) bad weather.
Now, I am out for work, and I’ll be back to Rome at the end of Feb.
Probably, we’ll meet on Saturday, March 4th.
Of course, I’ll keep You posted!!
Thanks truly much, Larry, my very best regards!!

Any update?
Hi, Larry, hi All.
I have taken a break: in Rome in this period, only >Euro3 cars can be used….
They installed cameras to fine also classic cars…
Maybe they will change this local law, due to the large amount of protests, but I plan to reconsider the purchase after summer….
