MK IX Gross Weight ? Wheel Offset? Gas Capacity?

I'm looking at tires for a MK IX and need to determine the loading for the tires. What is the Gross Weight for a MK IX?

What is the fuel capacity? The fuel tanks look small, as if each could hold only about five gallons.

What is the proper wheel offset/back spacing for the 6" rims on a MK IX?

Fuel Tanks: Left side 8 gals. Right side 9 gals.
Weight 34cwt (dry)
That's all I see in the manual.

Larry,

I stumbled across an article on the MK VII 50th aniversary in the September/October 2000 Jaguar Journal. It indicates that 34.5cwt is equal to 3,865 pounds. That article indicates that MKVII from 1952 had 16" X 5.5" rims and 6.70 X 16 tires.

The car has 15" American Racing Mags on it. I can find a good replacement similar to original if I can get an idea of what the offset should be. Somewhere, I saw mention that a MK IX had 16 X 6" rims.

Any idea on the correct tire size for a MK IX?

Michael: I found the MK IX is 4080 Lbs. in one of my books. Chris Harvey in his Classic Jaguar Saloons says 36.5CWT. Also the correct wheel size is 16 X 5.5. The MK VII had 16 X 5 until 52 the went to 5.5. Your 6.70 X 16 is right. The MK VIIM had same and it continued thru the MK IX. I cannot find or a mention of offset. I would figure the rims you have, looking from front: If the tyres are flush with fenders then measure offset of that rim. Do you have a spare, original? I sent you an email and picture of a Road and Track test in 56' of the VII, which is same except for some gear sets changes and brakes etc. I'll keep looking, will take awhile as I have quite a library and British Mags dating back to the eaarly 70's.

I was able to purchase a set of MK IX rims, although I will be sandblasting on them for a while.

I'm going to use 215R70 X 16 tires. Someone on JagLovers.Org has this size on a MK IX and seems to have adequate clearance.

Clearance might not be an issue. Diameter may change speedometer. 205s might be closer in diameter. Check tirerack for diameter cross.
