miata engine swap

I'm in the beginning process of rebuilding my B engine. I plan on doing much of the tear down and assembly myself, not only to save a buck or two, but also because I want to learn how my car works and the satisfaction of doing it myself.

Currently, I estimate:

$250 - Machine Shop
$650 - Parts - Brit-tek Major rebuild kit
$150 - New Clutch Kit - Brit Tek again.

The only ones I have seen on the left side of the pond in the V6 (3.0L) in the Taurus/Sable, S type, X Type, and LS, and the Aston Martin V12. I'll trust the experts that there is 4 cyl version. I'm not that savvy on European engines.

Tony, did you mean Zetec or Vtec? Everyone's swappin' zetecs every which way these days. Vtec's useless to everyone but Honda guys, as it turns the wrong way. Except for the s2000. It's OK.

Corvairs turn the wrong way too.

So do some BMW M10 4-bangers, IIRC, although it may just be the direction of the distributor and I'm all confused.

hmmmm....First, did you know that site's been categorized as "drug related"?...when I tried to go there from my school computer, the firewall prevented it along with that reason...
....however, going to it on my personal computer I found a very good "how-to"...if a guy can't duplicate the conversion from his site, a guy shouldn't atempt it! &, he did it for the right reasons: dogged out old Midget & he wanted more pwer!

In my MGB I'm gonna put a fors ZX3 (ztec) from an svt focus with a six speed. I want to get a crate engine but I'm not sure how much one would cost.

Don't know about the 170hp SVT Zetec but Bat's catalog lists the 130hp Zetec at $2500. Summit lists it at $2780. When/if an SVT crate motor becomes available I would expect it to cost somewhat more.

well as soon as i can drive(12days and i get my licence) I'm headed straight to the ford dealership to see how much one is

Adam, if I were lookin for one I'd drive to Tony's. He seems to be really tight with the local scrap yards and could probably find a good low mile engine at a good price. I'll be there Nov.8

That would be one way to go but I want to say to people that the engine has been in their for all of it's natural life, and say that all the miles are mine. But I do have to beak it in and that will be no fun.

HAHAHAHAHAHA it will take alot of saving for it.

Adam, my son...do you really think a crate motor is a new motor?

How do you spell "factory rebuild"?

Some crate engines are new - I think...some are rebuilt - Most, I think...correct me folks, if I'm wrong....&, Adam, anything you do to one invalidates its warranty!
