MGB MGB Thy Name is SSsnake...

Tony,

No longer will I feel guilty about putting a 'spin on' oil filter adaptor in my A or B....

Can we call this a Shelby MG ?!?!?

Pretty much a Barnhill MG at this point, Ron.

...or a Swiss Cheese MG...

Ron - there are some cars a person can do anything they want with - & others need to remain completely stock!

This one is one that's readily available so can be 'played with'...it started its 2nd life as a '79 MGB that a friend restored......and shortly afterwards he allowed his wife to drive it!

She proceeded to ram it under a truck. I came home from a weekend trip, and found it sitting in my drive with a note telling me to bring him a check. I did! After a new front fender, rubber bumper and hood with a complete body respray by the students at the local high school body shop, it replaced "my baby" as a daily driver for 6 years. First, however, I had to remove its air conditioning. Then, I had to systematically make it run right which meant dual HIF-4's & a Peco header into a straight exhaust w/"cherry bomb" mufflers....then, after driving it a few years, I was getting ready to take it to the New Orleans car show when the oil pressure dropped to 20psi at speed & almost 0 at idle....pulling a rod cap, I found worn bearings; so, I decided to V8 it....

...things have just gone from there!

And gone they have. I've got to hear that engine. You know I have had a bad case of DESIRE since the first time I saw it.

Me too... That picture of his v-8 with the cross-ram intake has been in one corner of my desktop background image for about 3 years now.

Sounds like the classic "might as well" syndrome, but with the luxury of being ALL FUN.
I'm sure that Basil will set up a special audio section just for the sound of this baby when it's time.

Tony, has that engine been on a dyno? Might want to think about it.

hehehe.....Glenn Towry built that baby!!

A couple of photos of the mock-ups for the chin spoiler & vent placement....the chin spoiler won't be quite as large as the mock-up as we're just using it to get the body curves correct & for angle placement.

The vent location is just about where I want it so they'll start cutting the hole soon - they'll cut it about 1/2" smaller than needed & then final cut it to fit the vent.

Oh, here's another car sharing the bodyshop with mine right now....an 800hp Eleanor they've been working on for some time...they stripped the body & did all the serious bodywork; then the owner did the engine & suspension & now its back for final bodywork & paint...the building vibrates when that thing is fired up..I wish I could get a photo of that intake; it looks like 8 single downdraft Dellotoro's but its really fuel injection:

Bad bad bad, gonna be the talk of the town.

Tony, I just got back from the British V8 meet and that Ford engine would fit your MGB! ;-)

hehehehe...you must've seen my friend Kelly Stevenson's blue MGB!

I'll stay with my Rover unit.

I like the zebra stripes on the guide coat. I freaked out when they sprayed them on my B. That shop knows what they're doing.

Kelly was there....as was Pete Mantell, Steve Carrick, Terry Schulte, and others...all with the Ford small block. The BOPR conversion was still prevalent...and there were at least 6 V6 powered MGBs in attendance.

The Ford 302 seems to be the up-and-comer in the V8 conversion crowd.

And I gave away a perfectly good 302 with auto trans about 2 years ago (in a wrecked 1985 t-bird). Oh, well. Gas keeps going up and I'm going to get me a cheap used land rover suv to steal the engine from.

Steve S: Did You Miss the Hardtop on SSsnake?

Do you know who made it?

Go to the top of this thread for photos....

Re: Steve S: Did You Miss the Hardtop on SSsnake?

Tony,

Your V8 conversion is taking shape nicely!

Will I be able to see it when I visit on Sunday?
