MGB MGB Diff Thrust Washer Question

I am trying to replace the thrust washers in the diff on my 67 BGT to fix the "clunk". I have it taken apart and have the new phenolic washer (Moss part # 262-140). My question: when i dissassembled the diff, there was a copper washer on the differential gear where the thrust washer should go - is the normal? Do I need both this and the phenolic washer? The picture below shows the diff gear and the phenolic washer from the Chicagoland MG clubs excellent pictoral instructions.

The originals were cupped, with holes. No idea how effective those phenolic ones are.

The cupped ones are around the spider gears. These are flat - same size as the phenolic one in the picture above.

I ended up putting both in - hope that works ok.
