MGB MGB Axles & Hybrid Rear End

I think those triangle cutouts *may* have it on the edge of integrity... Only way to know now is try it out. 3/4 material reduction could bite ya inna six. Literally.

I'd HIGHLY recommend someplace without trees or lamp-posts! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Oh, yeah - 1st time out will be at the old airport

I'm pleased to learn that. Mebbe on the other side you could put smaller holes at the same places and see if there's a difference in the way they behave.

... Don't misunderstand: I'm all for lightening things!

...but I also want to meet you face to face and shake your hand, IYGMD (If You Get My Drift). SAFETY FAST... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think it'll be fine myself. As long as both shoes get pushed with the same pressure... the backing plate should hold up fine.

Do you guys realize how thick that metal is - & how hard?

I do... I had the jack slip out from under my car (slowly) last year, and the plate held the car up nicely on it's own without even bending.

Yes, and the forces involved as you start pedal stabbin' at 45-50 MPH as the nose is well aimed into an apex with 1600-1700 pounds of mass behind it, too.

As I said: Gotta test it now. I'm anxious to learn how it works. Really am ~cautiously~ optimistic.

Got the rear brake assemblies built today...the backing plate with the brakes built onto it weighs 5.8 pounds - down from the factory weight of 7.4 pounds...quite a reduction in unsprung weight

...also did some work on the rear hubs & got .4 more pounds off each

...mounted one of my Carroll Shelby 15" wheels with the auto-x tire on it...that 8.75" wide tire slides right up inside the wheelwell with no rubbing anywhere! My hybrid rear end is the perfect width!

She goes down on all 4 wheels this weekend!

And she's looking good tony. I bet that thing'll giv'em heck... I forgot to mention while I was there... I'm a little concerned about your radiator fan not having any front to back support... Might want to think about that - you don't want to eat a radiator core under acceleration.

I can do that pretty easy, Kenny....just bolt a short radiator support bracket between the car & fan support
