I'm gonna build a set of brakes with the modified shoes & without the park brake stuff to ss where I can whack more metal.

That's kinda what I have in mind also but I want to put it together & draw where to put holes so they don't affect the shoes

You know, when I get home from the GRM Challenge, I'm gonna yank all the V6 stuff & put the GT back together with 4-cylinder drivetrain for historic racing.....but need the V6 power to be competitive at GRM

Makes sense to me (to check it installed). And by using circles like that it won't weaken the whole thing if there are any loads on it.

That's gettin' perilously close to Swiss cheese... but looks structurally sound enough... I'd check it for deformation with regularity, and have spares handy too.

Just my 2¢ worth.

I left the pressed flanges in, that should leave enough to keep it straight.

Well, heck, Doc - what about this:

Ahhhh, I love swiss cheese! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Have you thought about getting a cat for the garage?

Too many holes between the brake shoe mounts and the axle mounts will cause this to fold up under braking torque-be careful.

So Tony are you racing this thing or planning to fly it?
Add a few more lightening holes and a bit aluminium and you won't be far of.....

Why not take that route to upgrade rear end"

Several reasons:

1. Heavier than what I've got
2. Out of budget for GRM Challenge
3. Not legal in any SCCA or historic circuit that I know of

I do have the Hawk oilover front suspension on my V8 car though

For those of you who haven't kept up with the philosohy & reason behind the build of this car, go to:

Tony,

I get your point and you convinced me. I have a 1960 MGA rear axle, does that swap is feasible and will it fit a MGB.

Thanks,

JGC

Did you guys know there are different rear brake backing plates for MGB's?

the only difference seems to be the location of the small alignment hole for the wheel cylinger.

One has the little hole in line with the center of the bleed hole; the other is above & to the side of the bleed hole - about 1/8" above the other....so, you have to match the wheel cylinder to the backing plate!

But, I can't figure out the change point.

Hybrid rear end is under car for final time...Banjo 3rd member bolted down...Salisbury axles in place...everything turns nice & tight...now, its on to modifying/building brakes!

Oh, Kenny & Doc - took the 'pink wire' car out for an early morning spin today!

Yep... Get those last rides in. Friday she's coming home with me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Odd! I never had a wheel cylinder *not* fit. Musta been lucky! I thought they were the same across the line. GT to Roadster difference?

Keep "Pinky" all nice and loose, man. Kenny's got a drive to get it home. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Doc no difference...its just a couple of sets that are weird...guess I'll modify another one
