I'm hoping to find someone familiar enough with selling prices for MG-TDs that who can give me a good idea of the typical <u>selling</u> prices for very nice examples; perhaps not "concours" show winners, but rather very-nice, needs-nothing, good-driving, no-excuses examples. Please note that I'm not interested in <u>asking</u> prices; I'm interested in the prices at which cars actually sold. Thanks very much.
 
Last year, a nice, decent TD was for sale at the Moss Britfest. The asking price was around $18,500 USD but I am told that it eventually went for about $14,500 USD.
I've noticed that in recent years, the TF prices have really skyrocketed beyond the TD prices.....due to rarity, I guess.

I bought a 53 TD this week and did a fair amount of research

In a nutshell: An average used one in decent running condition and good body will be about 10-12K ("project cars" can be had for half that)

A well cared for example that has been kept in good condition will be in the 14-16K range

A recent total frame-up restoration to show or close to show condition and with authentic finish and details and colors will fetch 18-20K

Add a few thousand if you are buying through a reputable
classics dealer as opposed to private party.

I bought an absolutely faithfully and beautifully restored
car with everything done from the tires to the top to professional standards and paid 20K. I feel I got a very fine car at a fair price

Thanks for the unearned kudos. Fact is between Hemmings and the Sacred Octogon you get a good sense for what prices are and, more important, what is way out of line. I do think that price differences of a couple of thousand dollars are much less important than the quality of the car. Knowing how expensive parts can be and how tough it is to have good work done, I gladly paid top dollar for a top TD. On the other hand, to an experienced restorer who has it all figured out, a better price may be the deciding factor.

A TD is not a daily driver but it is nice to have something that will not depreciate if properly kept.
