Just visiting from the Triumph page as I had a question regarding MG's. Did all MG's (B's & Midgets) come with electric fuel pumps, or were there ever any mechanical units?
Thanks for any information.
 
My '63 Midget has a mechanical fuel pump.

All Bs and As were electric pumps. Midgets were mechanical for 948s, then electric for 1098 and 1275, then back to mechanical on Triumph powered 1500s in 1975.

PeterC...you're correct..except I have a '63 w/1098 & mechanical pump (& the car never had an electric pump!).

Um....both of my MGCs have SU fuel pumps.

Wuz gonna say the same thing. All my 67's and all the 74's I had are Electric. For that matter, so is my 1952 TD.

All the 1275 Midget and Sprite cars I had all were electric.
 
My two cents...

I have had many As and Bs (pre68) and have never found a mechanical pump... they have all been 'lectric...
 
Look at th' 'rumphs.

Them fellas have AC mechanicals.
 
All MGs, with the exception of the afore mentioned Midgets and some of the pre war racing models (which used pressurized fuel tanks - pressurized by the riding mechanic pumping pressure into the tank with a hand pump) had electric fuel pumps. Not all of the electric pumps were SU. Some of th every first models used what was called a petrol lift pump of unknown manufacture.

Ya' know tho'...

There appears to be a hole, normally covered by a plate, on the block below the manifolds that has all the earmarks of a mechanical fuel pump mount... I have never taken the time to see if there is a subsequent lobe on the cam.

Maybe it was a 'just in case we decide to add one later' by the MG engineers... :smirk:

Remember that was a generic BMC block with a gazillion applications, some of which used mechanical pumps.
 
You're right - that is a fuel pump blanking plate. The B series was used in a number of other vehicles, and some used mechanical fuel pumps.
