Mesh wheels on a B?

Nunyas said:
when I step up to a 15" rim, I plan on going with 195/60 tires. I believe Kumhos are relatively inexpensive tires that give decent performance.

Sounds like a plan. My sister had Kumho Ecstas on her 350Z when she got it, and they were very sticky.

another vote for Kumhos. I replaced $225 a piece michelin pilots with $70 Kumhos and if you didn't look at my bank statement, you would hardly notice!

Probably cheaper too. Still, are there any nice high-performance 185s out there that are fairly cheap?

The other thing to think about Camshaft is that just about any tire today, even the cheapest you can find. Would equal or better the best racing tires from the era these cars were designed in.

Though most likely you will be comparing what you have currently to what your new rubber would be.

hmmmm... I asked the seller of those rims a question, and got an unrelated answer... specifically:

Quote:]Q: Hi, Can you provide close up pics of the cast in lettering around the rim? Specifically, of the Shelby cast and the maker? Thanks
A: Hi: Thanks for asking about the Saab wheels. Yes, I have read that they fit the MGB, but the offset makes the rear wheel come close to the rear fender. They are a turn key fit on the MGA. Regards, mgroller[/QUOTE]

I know some people don't like reading ~long~ emails, but my message was only 2 sentences long. This kind of worries me.

he just mixed up his responses, look at the first question and answer:

Q: will these fit a 1975 mgb? Mar-15-07
A: I have posted photos of the the three markings requested by another prospective buyer showing the Carroll Shelby, model # and the Saab name. Thanks for your patience, mgroller

Looks like I've found a set! Stay tuned. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Does anyone have pictures of the Shelby center caps? I've actually seen a BGT on eBay with two of the Goldvane finish wheels, and they had very cool Shelby logos on the caps. I'm in the process of hunting down the caps now. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

ah... I'm much more relieved and much less apprehensive about bidding on those wheels now. When I made my post earlier, he hadn't added the extra pics yet, and he had not responded to the other question yet either.

You take the Shelby center caps, clean them up, & glue MG center discs on them!

So, guess I'm not gonna bid on them - oh well, I already have 2 sets.

I guess it's a matter of personal taste. While I'm sure MG crests would look nice, everyone in my club with Minilites has MG center caps. Those Shelby caps are probably somewhat rare, right? When I was planning on re-doing my Rostyles, I actually did plan on new MG center caps, MG lug nuts, and valve stem caps for a total of 21 more MG logos on the car. I really want to use the Shelby caps on these, though. I have always been intrigued by unusual cars with equally unusual aftermarket wheels. "Harold" the BGT is a prime example. BGTs are none too common, and that one has an incredibly desireable set of wheels that are long out-of-production.

Shelby caps say "SAAB"

Oh! How strange. The pair I saw on that GT must have had other caps on them then. Hmmm. Time for some more hunting and research on my part...

So, Camshaft, are you gonna bid on the eBay Shelby Saab wheels or were you referring to a different set of Shelby wheels that you'd found?

I found a different set for sale through a BCF member. Go ahead and bid on those eBay ones. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

very well! Make it so!

Tony - I'm definitely going to bid on those wheels on eBay. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

K - I won't...good luck.

RANT...now for my ebay rant..the new "Bidder Identity Protection Policy" that hides the ebay names of people means we might've been bidding against one another had we not talked on the BCF....everybody who bid on the old ebay system knew who the Autoist was - I could usually figure out if someone I knew was bidding on something they needed so I'd stay out of it...under the new "Bidder 1" "Bidder 2" system, you don't know unless we discuss things on this or another BBS....I don't like hte new system! Plus, its harder to tll if somebody has created a new ebay identity just to run bids up on their items...I don't do much on ebay anymore!

Harold recently had a new set of 185/70R14 Kumhos:

(he's up on jacks at the moment). These were $45 each from American Tire.

I think the Riken basketweave/BBS are quite rare: I've been looking on Ebay for months now, since I need a fifth as a spare. If you happen to see one or more for sale, please let me know!

The other problem I have with the Rikens is finding center caps for them. They are a non-standard size, larger than the ones sold at Moss and larger than any Hubcap Annie in Pasadena had.

Are you going to use original center caps?

weeee... I won them. I can't wait to get them now.

Anyone have suggestions for wheel paint? I don't have a compressor & paint gun. So, whatever paint/paint system I use needs to be available in rattle cans...
