Mesh wheels on a B?

One of my intended projects for Charlotte this year is to get new tires and restore the wheels; however, to sandblast and paint the wheels, in addition to all new trim, would be rather expensive. Is it possible to find nice wheels for a B for under $500? I really love the black Riken "mesh" wheels on Harold, but I can't seem to find those for sale. Any ideas?

Look around your local salvage yards for a set of Carroll Shelby "Minilite " knock-off's....15"x5-1/2'...they came on the '87 or so Saab 900 Turbo....I recently bought a set off ebay for $350 for 5 & have another set on my racecar.

Do you have any pictures? I may have seen those before. If they're the same ones I've seen, please keep an eye out for me, as my salvage yards rarely contain anything of value.

That's interesting that they're sourced from a Saab, seeing as that's my "intended" next DD. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Centers come black, grey, tan, various colors to match car.

PERFECT! I have always wanted to put a set of black-centered Minilites on the car since day one! This is literally a dream come true! Now I have a goal. Do you have any more information about them? Thanks Tony!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carroll_Shelby

"Carroll Shelby produced a line of 8-spoke alloy wheels for Saab automobiles in the early to mid 1980s. They were available in both gold (Goldvane) and hammered silver (Silverane) finish. These wheels were available through Saab dealers and could be fitted to Saab 99 and Saab 900 models manufactured through 1987. They are a sought after accessory for Saab enthusiasts today."

Now that I think about it, mine were dark grey that we repainted black.

If they're real Carroll Shelby's, they have his name stamped on them right along the painted edge where it turns to anodized. Let me know if you bid on them so I don't!

Tony, go ahead and snag them, I need to sell an R/C car before I can go a-hunting. Can curb rash be repaired? Can any sort of sealer be applied to the aluminum once it's polished? I don't mind weekly polishing in the summer, but I couldn't do it in the winter.

I have a set of those here at home that I will sell for $300. If your interested, send me a pm. I will hold for the summer as necessary as I wasn't advertising them. Anyway, I ramble a lot but let me know.

205x50x15 or 205x55x15...nice, fat, low...but your suspension better be RIGHT!

My suspension will be stock save for uprated shocks and a factory sway bar...I may lower it an inch or two in the next couple of years.

I've run the 205's on my Pageant Blue '79 B that was stock except for poly bushings...but, 185's are safer bet.

Probably cheaper too. Still, are there any nice high-performance 185s out there that are fairly cheap?

when I step up to a 15" rim, I plan on going with 195/60 tires. I believe Kumhos are relatively inexpensive tires that give decent performance.

Tony - I may bid on those wheels next week. I'll let you know for sure if I do on Monday.

Rob - no problem...lemme know

All I use are the Kumho's - absolutely love them!
