Mercedes?

Road trip, anyone? Not far from me, either!

Well, that'd be a loooooong road trip for me ... but I'd be happy to buy a six-pack of your favorite liquid for anyone willing to take a look at that 220S for me. Hands-on exam of minor little details like engine condition, transmission, rust situation, interior condition, suspension, trunk interior. Ya' know - little insignificant things!

If the car isn't a complete disaster, then I'd be coming down for my own, er, umm, laying on of hands.

I'll be happy to look it over & take some more photos if you'd like.....just tell me specifics you're interested in.

Let me know if you go; I may take a ride down that way as well...

I know I am just looking at a picture, but it seems there are at least $800 in good useable parts if nothing else? Window glass, trim pieces, etc. I'd have a good look at it.

I was driving down the highway & saw that lineup of old Mercedes...whipped around into the driveway in front of the locked gate & actually posted the pics as a lark just because we had been talking about 220S's here....there was a space between it & the next car which made me believe one had been sold or was being driven at the time.

I've got your list, Nutmeg, & will call the owner to see about looking it over.

That's one to watch!

Yep - I'm watching it too. It's in great condition, but waaaaaay out of my price range - more a collector car than a daily driver like I'm looking for.

When I emailed the seller to ask some questions, (he's only had it a short time), he said:

"wow you have drove one before - very cool."

sigh ...

I suspect if you bought the one Tony posted the pics of, it would cost you what the ebay one goes for to get it in shape anyway. (At least if the Midget is any indication) Certainly you're likely going to want better than a daily driver if you're going on a trip like you are planning - even if you drive it daily.

You're right on that John-Peter.....but, the bidding's not over on that one yet!

Here's an example of the car I'm looking for. If I'd seen it while it was up for sale I'd have gone for it.

Sold for under $2500, fully drivable, not a rust-bucket full of holes, and decent inside and outside. Seller had all the original service records:

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120474485102

I have to chuckle at that white one on ebay for $10,999 (reserve not met). He got it as a gift from a family member, and is trying to sell it for a bundle. Guys in the Mercedes club all agree it's worth maybe $8000 tops - if it's perfect. What was it Barnum used to say ... ?

Must say I do love those Mercedes models - I would love to get a black one and become a SMERSH James Bond villan - I already have the cat, I just need the car and the minions

JP, I'll volunteer as a minion. :jester:

Would that be a filet minion?

I'm going to try & get up there this week to take photos of the one I found.

Thanks Tony!

If it's not driveable due to problems, don't spend any time poking around on it for my sake. Body rust holes, and major engine/trans problems would make it a no for me.

Oh my! That looks nice from here.

...but it's at a "dealer"...

Paint magnets and compression gauge in-hand for lookin' at that one. If it's "all there" it'd be worthwhile.
