Measurement Points

Hi all. My son and I bought a 71 Midget and after tearing it down I noticed brazing was done in the front frame on the drivers side between where the shock bolts on and the firewall. I suspect it might have been in an accident long ago but other than the welding there are no other signs. Are there any measurements that I can do that will help me find if the tub and frame are straight. I have searched for factory specs but can find none.

It was in poor shape but for $300 I had to grab it as a good learning tool.

thanks

Norm

not sure about the measurements but there is some nasty welding in my wheel wells and it is original high quality british welding straight from the factory

I know what you mean but these not factory. Here is a pic of the cleaned up welds.

OK, you're right - that's a repair.

A good place to start is to measure the old back-to-front diagonally-both-ways method. It will let you know in a hurry if you're dealing with a rectangle or a parallelogram.

I measured top A-post back and every point to the rear is 1/4 inch smaller on the drivers side compared to passengers side. Sounds like a lot but that's how it looks. Front seems ok but I don't like that weld so its a bad shell I guess.
