It was stolen in'72,& gotten back recently. With A Little Help From His friends
Hey Guest!
When I was in high school the 77th Army Band donated some old instruments to our band. Among them were six VI Selmers, four Altos, a tenor, and a Bari. Sadly, none of the kids wanted to play them because they looked old and were a little worse for wear. My band director had me do repads on them all and he wound up holding an auction. He raised enough money from that auction to buy new drum equipment. It gives me hope that one day I'll be reunited with my Selmer Mark VI tenor sax that was stolen in 2005. Even though I was very well insured, it still stings to think about it, as my father bought me that horn.
The silver lining was that without the theft, I would not have discovered the world of vintage Buescher saxophones. I played a '45 "Big B" Aristocrat for many years after the theft. Then on a trip to New York to visit my nephew, I purchased a '35 Series 1 Aristocrat to be my backup horn. Well, it turned out the '35 was a better sounding horn than the '45, so it became my primary with the '45 as a backup. Also have an '18 True Tone tenor in the mix, and it's competing with the '45 for the 2nd position.
