You mean Darrin...."Dimitri" is what MY name is.

Darrin does have a few towing places that he uses but I'm not sure which ones. Just call him and talk to him. Tell him that Dimitri the drummer reffered him to you.
However if you have AAA+ you'll be fine. They'll tow you up to 100 miles.

Wait a minute Nunyas, are they on the corner of San Fernando and Ruberta? Kind of a dumpy place but with a bunch of really cool old cars coming in and out? If so then I've driven down that street dozens of times and always drool at the old unrestored pre-war cars they have laying around outside.

Upgrade immediately to the 100-mile tow. The yearly dues are less than the tow will cost you. I've used the tow many times, and never for a roadside breakdown! Mainly for transporting non-runners from here to there and back. Don't ask, don't tell.

I heard from him today and he mentioned that your clutch was in a million pieces! LOL!!!

He said he came in at 5:30 this morning to get a head start on your car. The engine was out in under an hour! I wish I could work that fast. It would probably take me a week to do a clutch.
 
easily a week.... never pulled an engine out of a car myself, but I plan to when ever I get the facilities to do so. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, he was describing the clutch to me over the phone, and the stuff I've been doing wrong *cough* holding the clutch pedal in at lights *cough* /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Lesson learned... A habit that's been with me as long as I've been driving. Gonna be a tough one to break. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

One thing about the engine removal he told me about was the cutting of the exhaust. His reasoning sounded ok to me, but it was still a bit surprising that sazalled the pipe. It doesn't bother me that he did it. I'm sure that cut down some of the removal time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif It was darned honest of him to even tell me that he did it. There's quite a few places out there that wouldn't even bother mentioning something like that.

Sounds like a good guy over the phone. Can't wait to meet him and pick up my car tomorrow during lunch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you're removing the engine of a daily driver just to change the clutch & you're working "against the clock" in your shop, it makes sense to not mess with removing the carbs (& I'll be everything below the exhaust manifold was welded anyway)...& you're right - most shops wouldn't tell you but do it anyway.
 
The reason he said he cut the exhaust is that there was some funky bypass pipe welded in to go around the catalytic converter. There was no good way to disconnect it so he cut the pipe and will simply weld it back in place. Made sense to me anyway.
 
yeah... it's basically a down pipe for a ZS equpped car without a cat. like i said earlier... doesn't bother me one bit that it was cut, and the fact that he's honest enough to tell me it had to be down is a good thing IMO. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Glad to find this dilemma is drawing to a close. Sounds like the T/O bearing was worn to the nubs! Surprised to learn you "ride" the clutch Rob. This one will last the life of the car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
