TR4/4A Material to make a mirror base gasket for door mirror install?

Hi guys - what would you make a door mirror gasket to mount a door mirror on you door? Assuming not a material that absorbs water - grin.
 
My choice would be rubber. If you have an old inner-tube lying around, cut a chunk out of that and trim to fit. The thickness would be ideal.

+1 on the old inner tube idea. That's what I use to make nearly all my spacers and pads.

I totally agree with the inner tube choice.

I keep an old inner tube under my work bench and have cut numerous pieces off for other such projects.

A blue pen works great for marking it and will make it approximately 1/16 inch larger than the mirror base for a nice look.
