Mallory dual point recurve help needed

Hi folks,
I'm getting ready for starting her for the first time again, but would like to have a local distributor shop do the curve. This BJ8 engine has one of Elgin cams profiles that has 268 deg duration. Compression is roughly .5-.75 over stock of 9:1. Also has headers and is fully balanced and blueprinted.

Does anyone have a baseline curve for a fast road setup that we can start from?

Thanks!

Chris,
I have spent many hours recurving a Dual Point Mallory on my distributor machine to get the best out of my modified BN6. I ended up using home made two stage advance spring sets to stretch the curve to at least 3800-4000 RPM before max advance came in. For my setup the best curve was somewhat similar to the standard distributor: In the low revs a bit more advance than standard and higher up the rev range a bit less. This is what worked best for my engine. Your cam profile/CR. is not drammaticly different from stock so a curve close to the original dizzy might be a good starting point. Good luck!

Hi John,

Thanks. Do you by any chance have a photo or plot of the stock curve? I can't bring my Lucas since it isn't original to a Healey, it came from a Jag...and it's old so any curve read from it would certainly be wrong.

Hi Chris,

I do not have a plot or a picture, but for an MKIII, you should be able to find all the distributor data in the GENERAL DATA section of your workshop manual . . . . . .

Have you tried Jeff at Advanced Distributor?

Yep, I know about Jeff. I was trying to be lazy, since I figured there are several guys here in town that can work with Mallory distributors, and if I had a curve to give them they could certainly do it. Oh well, I'll get it sent to Jeff after I make sure she still runs.
