Long story. A friend had a really, really nice '64 Pontiac GTO convertible back in the early 80s that he had pumped a bunch of money into and was deservingly quite proud of. Only took it out for occasional Sunday runs and a rare car show. I actually drove it once, the first (and last) time he showed it to me. (I kinda convinced him to let me pilot it around the block, showed him how to power shift, scared the bujeezus out of him.)

Making a short story long, as chance would have it, my friend went bankrupt in '87 (yes, even an Endodontist can do it, over-extended when the South Louisiana oil industry went flat) and rather than see the courts take his precious Goat, he sold it to "someone" for a dollar then resold it for market price after the dust settled. The car ended up, strangely, in a garage in my little burg, stored away. The new owner is an overpaid oil exec that works in Africa and he keeps it in his papa's garage, again in my home town. Chance. I have known this for a number of years, have heard stories about how the young oil man has sunk a fortune into it to have it re-restored (hey, it was nice when I saw it, and I know it never slept outdoors or was driven). Well yesterday I finally decided to go check it out as it was resting under a carport across town, waiting for its new seats. Yeach! $35,000.00 of re-restoring and it is at best, a great barn find! Go figure. Makes you wonder.

Heck, my TR6 is in better shape.

I should'a given ya'll the Reader's Digest version of this story. Ya had to be there.

It absolutely baffles me to see the amounts of money spent for old American muscle cars. I missed that phase of my youth, apparently. They were CHEAP then. I'spose that's why they're now expensive... most of 'em were trashed or smashed so the supply is limited now. And a goodly number of us boomers are in a position to reacquire the rides of our yout' regardless of the cost.

I just think it's weird. <shrug>

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgg!
That purple mopar in the top right pic reminds me of the purple 426 Hemi cuda I nearly bought in 1970 {Drool}
Wish I had it now, to re sale.
BUT back then, I was more of the "Farm Boy" type and opted for the Power Wagon 4x4 Pickup {even it had the 383 Cu.In. engine}
Back then cars, {And some trucks} were FAST and gas was gas!
Not the compound of chemicals they pass off as gas today.
Hehehehehehehe, something stinks!
Ok I know, i`m showing my warped sence of humor again.

Those guys love their cars like we love our LBC's - 'cept its more acceptable to hot rod them.

The purple Challenger sold last Friday, we took an absolutely beautiful 1974 SD 455 Trans Am in on trade. What a car! Beautiful Admiralty Blue paint, white interior, and of course the ubiquitous Schinella-penned hood bird. One of only 943, it's a real thoroughbred. I'm buffing and waxing her tomorrow.

Buying a car from my youth would get me a Dodge Aries K or maybe a Chevette.
Hmmmm. mebbe that's why I took from long before my time.

Unfortunately they auctioned off the Chandler Collection. I went to view it one last time just before they did. I hear they got around $40M for everything.
