I have installed Massey' s new fan. I have a TR4 engine in my TR3 and had to install the shorter crank extenstion to provide sufficient clearance for the radiater. I also elongated the mounting radiater holes to pick up an additional 1/4 inch. The thick fan belt can now pass between the fan and the radiater. According to Mark Massey he has not encountered this problem and felt that I may have a TR4 front engine plate. Any time I had any questions, Mark Massey returned was phone calls and was very helpfull. The other complication was that the radiater whole for crank was positioned two inches too high when previously recored, and required a local radiater shop to relocate it. Will report when car is back on road.

Geo; Did you buy "Marks Mounting Kit" as well?

How easy / accessible is it to get the old fan off & mount Marks fan with everything in place? Meaning, Rad. is in; Front Apron is in; In driving cond?

Thanx, Russ

I have not purchased this fan -- just posted a link and a pic from Mark's website to help round out the discussion.

I have replaced a TR3A fan with the radiator in place (but not using Mark's fan) -- but it was close work and might not have been possible with other than a stock fan.

Just received the fan the other day. Only problem I see is flattening out the
tabs on the tab washers that retain the bolts on the existing fan assembly.
Haven't tried looking from underneath .
Oh ya, a 4A .

Let us know if you see any difference in cooling. I plan on change to their fan.

Ok. Removed the existing fan without taking out the rad. Will not do that again !
So today I removed the rad to put in the new fan.
Tomorrow will put the Macy's fan on the car. One problem that I
do see is that The Macy mounting kit is the same as you would get from other sources.
The hub on the Macy's fan is thinner so I believe you would need to trim the rubber
grommets to make them fit. Will call Macy's tomorrow for advice.

Hi Harry,

I have to guess that you had to remove the "Front Apron" as well; Correct?

Russ

We're talking a 4A here. Just disconnected the hoses, unbolted the side brackets,
bolts holding the base; and carefully lifted it up and out. Oh ya, had to disconnect the top hose with
the thermo housing connected.

I just bought Macy's Hurricane fan as well. As soon as my house renovation project is complete, I will start my "winter" maintenance on my 3A. I'll update everyone with my progress as well. I did speak with Mark via email, he suggested that I do not install the auxiliary pusher fan I bought last fall and had not installed yet - claiming the cooling system will not need it once the Hurricane fan is installed and in his opinion the restriction the fan would cause would hinder the performance.

Hi Kiowacraw,

Personally; I can`t wait to hear your exp. Will you be installing the Fan with the "Front Apron Off or On"?

Thats the part that most interests me as I`m "NOT" going to remove mine.

Keep us all posted.

Thanx, Russ

I just received my fan in the mail today. I will let you know how it goes.

Russ-

I will try everything possible to avoid taking off the apron. Even if it means sending in my three year old daughter's skinny little arms in there. I will let you know how it goes.

If you leave the radiator in-place, tape a piece of cardboard over the radiator fins while you work to protect them and the back of your hands as well.

The fan is a real winner !!!
Took the 4A for a ride this afternoon in about 85 with no clouds. Ran it hard for about 30 minutes,
slowed down into traffic and eventually went thru about 6 long light. Lugged it in 3rd for a bit.
Temp guage was a little over 1/2 way & when I got into the stop and go went up to about 3/4.
Dropped right after moving again.
Harry

I guess I will have to get one.

Hi Peter,

Yeah, "For Sure"!!

Hey Mark M.

If your reading this; I hope you have a good inventory of fans!! I can surely see one coming to me soon!!

"Harry": Thanx much for your input. Sounds pretty good to me!!
