TR6 Luggage Rack

When I purchased my TR6, the luggage rack was already mounted to the trunk lid with screws. Whoever put it on didn't put any sealer around the screws and water got in to the lid which caused the back edge to rust out. I think the only way it can be mounted is with screws; make sure you seal them.
 
Mine is attached with stainless steel machine screws, washers and nyloc nuts.
You should also have or make cushions between the feet and the boot lid.
 
I have yet to install my luggage rack but when I do, I plan on using jack-nuts (like a rivnut) but with some silicone to seal them. The ones I bought are #13014 for 10-24 screws.
These jack nuts collapse and grip the inside of the trunk lid and are threaded. I'm not a fan of sheet metal screws.

When I installed the rack on my '74 TR6 I used "Well Nuts"

A well nut is a type of fastener used to blindly fasten a piece and to seal the bolt hole. Well nuts consist of a flanged neoprene bushing with a nut embedded in the non-flanged end.

Why do you need a luggage rack? A 4A will take this without a rack.

It depends on the type of rack. Amco made a rack that was custom for the TR6. It covered nearly the entire trunk lid. The mounting tabs at the rear were so close to the edge of the trunk lid that you used screws to mount. Amco is long gone but the rack is still available in stainless from the usual suppliers.

There was a more generic and less expensive rack that was smaller. It sat higher above the trunk lid and used bolts for mounting.

Another style that was around back in the day was more chunky and not quite as big as the Amco rack. I didn't care for the looks. It reminded me of something off a 1960 Rambler station wagon. I think it used bolts.

Similar to that style was a rack with slats that I think were bonded to the trunk lid. I think there were another generic or universal design that could be "adjusted" by using more or less slats.

Just make sure to spread the load across as much metal as possible as shown by Don, fender washers are your friend here.
