Lucas SLR Driving Lights installation

I've attached some photos of how I eliminated the jiggles on the driving lights with the added benefit of having a method of making a fine adjustment to the aiming of the lights. The turnbuckles mount to the back lip of the splash apron and the bumper brackets.
I used 5 inch driving lights from Mini Mania instead of the the usual Lucas SLR. This is an homage to the first set of chrome tractor lights I installed back in 1964 when I couldn't afford the real deals. I grew to like the smaller size since they didn't overpower the looks of the front in my opinion. The silver mounting brackets under the lights are what's left of the original 1964 tractor lights.
Nice clean installation!

By the way Patrick

I have also run the lights through relays and separate fuses, and have connected them to switches on a made up bracket under the heater controls. All lights are run through the dip switch so will drop out when the lights are dipped, I have also run the fogs on an on/off/on switch so I can keep them on constantly with the mains on dipped if I need them.

I replace the 2 position "dash light" on/off switch with a 3 position using the bottom position for the fog lights. (same switch that is used for the parking light/head lamp). In California you must have the fog light or flamethrower go off when the high beams go on.

I love the consistent inconsistency of our laws. In NJ, the driving lights can only be on with the high beams and must go off when the high beams do. Since this is the case, both high beams and driving lights can be controlled with the floor dip switch. Also, since the high beams give a wide light, the driving lights provide a complimentary narrow distant beam.

On the other hand, Fog lights would be ineffective if paired with high beams as the high beams would overwhelm with reflective light. For fog lights, I don't believe the law pairs the fog lights with the high beams as with the driving lights.

This is the way my 2015 GMC PU Truck operates.

Yes Steve they are halogens and they do provide a more focused pattern. At least more focused that the rather wide angle beam of the tractor lights. They are certainly brighter that the Lucas headlights I have, even on high beam. I am tempted to install a set of the halogen P700 tri-bar replica headlights but I struggle with trying to avoid too much bling......ego. painted wheels.
