I am testing an old coil. On the 3 ohm coil, what should the secondary side of the coil read when hooked to a multimeter (20K setting)?
Thanks.
Lin

Lin :

W hat color is the insulator ?

That is probably the sport coil and it is good to go--Put it in N see how car runs OK . I no longer have the tests I made years ago , sorry ole Pal.

Hi Lin
Lucas SA12 Sports Coils have a secondary winding resistance of approx 7.5 Kohms. These were the most common sports coils of the day, maroon-red painted top insulator. They have an approx 3-ohm primary coil.
The earlier HS12 sports coil also seems to be about 6-Kohm to 8-Kohm for secondary winding.
I would say if you are seeing anything from 6-Kohm to 10-Kohm on the secondary then its worth trying out.
Regards

I am getting a 6.55 ohm reading. So, I guess I have a good coil. Silver case, black top. Thank you!
