Lucas alternator question

Just wondering (hoping) that somebody might possibly have a lucas interchange book. I have a 20 ACR alternator that I got with a bunch of parts and have no idea what cars it was used on. Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry, my books don't list them as ACR20, only by part number or replacement model. All I can come up with is some TR7 and some TR8 (which were both ACR20 but apparently with different mounting points).

Maybe Art will have the info.

I think (maybe) that I have a spare stock alternator from my TR8. I can take some pictures and you can see if they match yours.

The one to ask is Art. He's in that field

IIRC it's the 35 amp alternator used in the TR7/8. There should be a flat surface on the aluminum housing with the output and part number. If the unit's dirty, give it a good clean on that area to read it.

The 20 ACR was used on the TR7 and 8 with air conditioning. The non AC cars used the 17 ACR as did the MGB. I think the 20 was used on some of the Jags as well but not sure. You may have to clock the housings in order to make them fit your application. I have seen some that have a larger pulley shaft, that make it impossible to mount the stock pulley. If you need a spare, let me know. I have a couple of shelves worth of cores.

The 20ACR designation is a model or group number. Sorta like a Delco CS130 that has a bunch of variations. Pictures would be the best way for me to track down exactly what the application(s) is(are).

Unfortunately, I'm going in for surgery on Monday for that pesky butt tumor, and most likely will not be back to work for several weeks. If you do post some pictures, I could call one of the guys at work to take a look.

My books give the rating as either 65 or 66 amps (depending on which book).

I took these of the stock alternator that I removed from my TR8. 1980 with A/C. Do you need any other numbers or pictures?

This is just one that I got in a box of parts that I picked up and trying to find the applications so I can sell it. I'll get some pictures of it on Tues when I get back to the shop. I've found that it fits 72-76 XJ6 but I'm sure it fits others as well considering where I got it the guy had all Triumphs and a couple MG's.

It must fit other applications, as it's replacement was the same exact 95 amp alternator that went on my TR6 this summer.

The difference may be that THIS replacement (shown below) will accept the stock three wire plug on a TR6 and others. But it also has the live posts to place the ring terminals on that the TR8 uses. I don't know what is hiding under that black plastic cover and that will help tell you what it can fit.

This is what they say it will fit and I'm sure there are other applications, as this came off a Tr6 eBay listing.

This is what the replacement looks like: Brosky TR6 95 Amp Alternator Swap

This is an externally regulated alternator so it's gotta be 60's and 70's. Hopefully pictures and maybe if I can find a part number on it will help narrow it down.

Then it's not an ACR. The R indicates internally regulated (as does that plastic housing).
