Lubricant Question

I just need to confirm my findings after hours of reading on this forum on the subject.

I plan to use a 20w50 oil in my 1275. In my ribcase I should use a 50wt standard engine oil, or is it okay to use the same multi-viscosity oil as in the engine?

How much of each should I need?

Thanks,

And I read that I should fill the transmission through the shifter opening? Roughly how much does an empty rib-case take?

Thanks again....

Tranny holds 2.7 pts.

Engine holds 7.8 pts.

Use the same oil you put in the engine 20-50

Pump it into the tranny through the filler hole. Bugeyes have a rubber plug by your right knee for this. Use one of the 3 buck pumps that screws on a quart bottle. When full it will run out.

Depends on the wear and tear inside the engine. I put 20w/50 in mine during July/August and had a lot of shifting problems. It was also 98-100 degrees during the day during that time. I switched to Castrol 40HD and so far my shifting issues have diminished quite a bit.

AhhHemm, I was talking about new units or rebuilt of course.

US pints my friend

Like one quart for the tranny and 5 for the engine, start checking at four as 5 is a bit much although a bit will need to go into the filter.
