Lubing a hidden Alemite

Have any of you out there that have installed new U-joints on your TR6 figured out a way to get to the Alemite on the outboard rear axle joint? That little sucker is totally hidden within the confines of the aluminum swing arm. I found a cool little gizmo that afixes to the end of my grease gun to get to the other joints, a straight tube with a nylon collar that allows you to cover the tip of the Alemite and pressure-fill the grease fitting but I need something like a 90 degree short right angle to get to that hidden one. Short of pulling the hub, I see no way to get to this little bugger. And all the replacement joints I have found are all lube-type. A lot of little words for a potentially big problem, like I need another problem....

I've had similar problems on Heralds and Spitfires. Some of my latest batch of Hardy Spicer u-joints came with a rather long "extended" grease fitting. I use one of them ONLY when I need to grease the u-joint and then replace it with a short, slotted plug...mostly because I've seen a lot of these long grease fittings break off or otherwise disappear.
 
Anybody ever drill a hole in the carrier A-Arm assembly someplace in line with the zerk fitting so you can poke the grease gun through?? Properly placed I don't think it would compromise any strength. What would be necessary?? Maybe a 1/2" hole??

That gadget is cool but still no room to get to the Alemite cause the body of the joint is in the way.

I think that i would shudder at drilling a hole in my swing arm, but maybe you are right, a 1/2" hole might not weaken anything.
I was thinking of rigging a piece of pipe at a right angle and put a nylon ring on the end somehow to seal it and jamb the thing in place to get the seal I would need for the gun to work. I dunno. I have 20K on the joint and am gettig a little nervous about the joint going dry on me.
I think the OE joints were lube-free, they sure were because of their location. Don't you lovem?

What about a pin oiler...very small orfice that connects to a grease gun.I saw one the other day at Advanced Auto Parts.And Autozone?Could be just the trick..whadyathink?
 
Ken, have a pin oiler. Still a matter of access. The grease fitting is like sitting inside a can, with zero direct access.
