Looks like I'll get some more engine removal experience

Got the engine all ready for the new adaptor plate today. Existing clutch (Datsun) looks pretty good, still debating if I will replace it or keep it. Otherwise the engine is pretty much as far down as it needs to go, other than getting the pilot bushing out.

Next step is a conversation with Gerard to get some things ordered.
 
Pulled the front cover off the transmission and that bearing looks okay at first glance, so it confirms to me that the box is going to have to come apart. Ah well, at least it'll be solid once it's all done.

To change that input bearing on a Datsun box everything has to come apart anyway. Get a good book or let an expert have at it. If you are doing it yourself clean your shop top to bottom so its easier to find the escaped parts!:encouragement:

Plan at this point is to have an expert do the work. There are pros/cons for either approach, but right now for me this is the best choice.
 
Back when I did my conversion to the Datsun trans I found one for nearly nothing but there was some metal slaw when I drained it. I didn't want to dive into the trans and find I need some special tool and was not comfortable doing it on my own.
I sent it to the guys a Rivergate to have then service it and had them cut out the hole for the starter.
had it back in a week shiny clean and it is as smooth butter.
 
Well there's your problem right there

Got this photo from Gerard today. I'd say that's my problem! This is the bearing on the counter gear shaft, that broken metal is what I found in the oil. Luckily, only the bearings seem to have issues -- the syncros and other tolerances are good. So it'll get new bearings and back in the car it goes.

Update: Parts on the way!

Just heard from Gerard that most of my parts should be shipping out shortly! We're still waiting on some pieces for the conversion to a single carb, but all the 5-speed conversion pieces are ready to go. He already rebuilt and shipped my transmission, that's in my garage ready to go.

I've got a road trip with my local club planned for Memorial Day weekend, so I've got a target for getting it all buttoned up. Once these parts arrive I'll have enough on hand to get the brakes sorted out and the engine/transmission back in the car.

Now I just need to remember how it all goes together!
 
I'll be there for you for whatever you've forgotten... I've had more than one completely disassembled.

Think you have work cut out for you?? Look at what I'm waiting to come back from paint...

.. still have an engine to build, and install the wood to boot.

Poor Penny Bugeye is just sitting with her fresh paint and bodywork, waiting her turn. At the rate I'm going with her, I'll be lucky to even get the suspension rebuilt this year. Ah well, only so much time...

Yep, it's a Traveller.

Also getting the hydraulic clutch conversion, 5 speed kit, alternator, Ford Escort disc brake upgrade, all new hydraulic plumbing, and interior. All the rear brakes/seals already done, but still need to do rear suspension bushings.
 
Excellent, that'll be good fun when it's done. Yours or a for someone else?

A friend's car... owns 3. A Tourer, a 2 door Saloon, and this Traveller. All have my 5 speed kit in them. The Tourer used to belong to another friend.
