Long story. Garage find 73 midget

Ahhhh. Add me to the list of people who don't know... Lol.

Safe to assume the MGB hood won't fit?

correct. Tailights, signal arms, and a couple of switches are pretty much all that are shared.

Thanks for the info JP. The hood is the worst part and aluminum sounded like a great add-on. . Except for the not fitting thing.... Lol.

Hopefully, I'll get some good parts at the swap meet/ show.

Any advice onthe con stable top? Should I even be concerned with replacing it? I don't plan on ever using it since the car doesn't have a/c. If its too not to go topless what's the since. Maybe one of those tonnoue things in the trunk if weather pops up.
Also, trunk carpet? Did it come on these things or is it just an add-on people throw in there for good looks?

they didn't come with trunk carpet, though you can buy kits.

I replaced my top - I have been caught in the rain and have used it in the cold and the very hot. Many swear by a zip out rear window (for driving in heat) though mine doesn't have it. I found a new canvas top on Ebay for cheap cheap cheap a few years ago but that was a fluke. I know that Victoria British has them on sale at least once a year.

Other than something like a top or a hood, the only swap meet observation I would make is that if it is worn out on your car, it is worn out on the used one at the meet.

Definately will only buy a new top "if" I get one. Just not sure how complicated the install. Not worried that I can do it... Just thinking its. Not really high on the list

Top is fairly simple to install. I think there are instructions in the Wiki for this site. I've done two now and as long as you've got a new piece of aluminum for the front seal they really are a piece of cake. I have zip out window on Bugsy and top is not at taut as if I had a non zip out. If it's that hot I usually don't drive Bugsy.

Great info guys.

Anything specific I should stay away from?

YES, putting money in a car you don't have a title on.

Sounds like you might not have proper papers. If so, that's where you need to start.

Nope, it's fully titled in my name. That was the first thing I did... Transfer title. Been there done that with misplacing titles.... Sucks

So. Looks like I might go through the carbs this weekend, see if it can take it around the block. I believe I have a needle sticking or seat leaking. So fix that and it should be on the road at least for a few. Before I take it apart.
Side note: I found the garage reciept from where the guy I got it from picked it up. It was in for a carb rebuild in 1994 and never Picked up.... That's a cool reciept to me...lol

I had a 70 MGB GT that came with original paperwork including the stamped metal tags and all the service papers of the prior two owners.
It all went with the car when I sold it to a guy in Pennsylvania.
He restored the car and showed it at a big British car show back there, it won 1st place in it's class.
It was nice to see the old girl all shiny and proud.
The new owner also emailed progress pictures to me as he restored it.

Ok ... Another question

How do I determine if I have the original
Motor?
My body never is "GAN5 UD 133634 G" build date 4 /73

Oddly built in the same month as my daughters birthday.

The motor number us 12V / 671Z / L7100

According to the resto book I have an American motor should be a 12CD / DA / H?????
So is there a way to tell if this one was trans planted? Or just and oddity? Or the book is just mistaken?

Also, does anybody make replacement interiors in "OCHRE"? Notes in the book say the carpet was "same as autumn leaf" and biege leather cloth was used to trim carpet. What ever that means.
But, my car has all black caper and door panels, although it looks like the door panels have been painted black. Did they install black carpet with tan door panels from the factory?

Thanks to the Gerard's garage link I just found in hi signature, I answered this question myself. The book misquoted the engine numbers. 671v is. N America motor. Cool
