Long story. Garage find 73 midget

Great info guys.

Anything specific I should stay away from? Life dash cover? Sounds to good to be true.

Also, I will need a hood/ bonnet. Im thinking of the aluminum one but, not sure it will fit a later midge? The hood is probably the worst part on my car.

Lastly, anybody in the Ohio cincy area? I would love to see what one of these cars actually drives like. That way I can decide if I want to soup up the motor a bit.

I've met a guy from there named George (Chase ... I think). He has a late '69 or early '70 midget that is real nice. He could probably help you out.
 
What is this dash cover of which you speak???

Hello,
I have a extra set of black with white piping seat covers (marine vinyl -so they are mildew and fade resistant) for a Spridget. A friend bought a set of covers off ebay for $250 which were of cheap plastic and fit terribly. Since I had made our Bug-eye sprite seat covers I offered to make a better fitting and quality set for him. I was able to take apart a set of factory originals as a pattern and make a well fitting set for him, and since I had the pattern I made another set for a MG club member who has since decided to put his car project money into other parts. So, I have an extra set of spridget seat covers in my dining room ready for a new home. They are part number 640-910 on The Moss Motors Website https://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29361. Moss has them listed for $399. The MG club member and I had settled on the set for $250. I would be happy to offer anyone else the same.

I have seen Heather's (MGB486RRW) work and can vouch that it's really great and the materials will be better than what are offered elsewhere.
I don't remember who but someone here also has a set of seat covers made by Heather.
She and her husband Jason are members of our MG car club (MGCCNWC), are great MG owners and the deal she offered above for $250 really can't be beat for the kind of quality you will be getting.

Evidently, the British club of cincy is have a huge meet only ten miles from my home. I never would have know....with out this site.

The seat covers sound like a good deal. But, I'm going stock (biscuit?) color. Thanks and hopefully some body snags them from you...got biscuit?

As for the dash cover Victoria British says there cover ( glues? ) over the exhausting dash pad and is mostly unnoticeable . Just sounds to good to be true.

Great story. Not only a way to share with your daughter, but she will have an early start on being a gearhead. I, in late life, am learning to turn the wrench. My sharing is with my husband. I am looking forward to restoring his '48 dodge pickup. Together with other buds of late have been doing some work on my Healey. I'd rather be driving but I also know that fixing problems yourself is very gratifying. Good on you and your willingness to share with your daughter. You will both be the better for it.

The ABS plastic cover that covers just the top portion of the pad. They look OK and is a fine solution to a daily driver car. I have one on my midget.

I'm not sure that the Midget or Sprite ever came with an aluminum bonnet... the MGB did but not the Spridgets. At least I don't think so. :crazy:

I have the dashpad and it is un noticeable. Works very well.

They never came in aluminum, though perhaps someone made one somewhere for racing. Don't forget almost everything is interchangeable on these cars, my bonnet got wrecked by a zealous media blaster. Replace it with a used one of indeterminate year.

Lol... I watched a guy destroy a hood with a media blaster once. He didn't realized sand builds heat and heat warps panels. Doh!

I guess I'll look for a good hood at the cincy ohio meet ( fairfield actually) on July 15th. Did sprigets ever use aluminum hoods? I know I saw one for sale, but didn't know they are all the same. I learning. :smile:

to my knowledge they never came with Aluminum hoods. MGB's did. This raises an important point. As you begin to get into these wee beasties, you will soon discover that not everyone can tell Spridgets and B's apart - particularly in ads. I ended up with a windshield that was given to a B owner in error. It's a common error.
