TR4/4A Long Speedo Cable for Overdrive--where does it get tied down?

My old cable was all burned up by my exhaust system. Is there a special way to secure that cable to frame or other areas? It seems almost too long, and I'm tempted to put a curl in it.

Might be it is a bit long; the information I dug up says the original OD cable (for LHD TR4 w/OD) was only 89", but it seems most vendors offer a 96" cable instead.

Not sure if TR4 is the same (probably not), but IIRC the TR3 has a clip on the RH frame rail for the OD cable in addition to the one in front of the battery box.

Another trick that might help is to slit a length of old fuel line, and slip that over the cable.

I think he has a TR4A which should have a 504948 according to the SPC. That's supposed to be a 66" cable and should be routed like the TR6 across the top of the transmission and use the right-angle adapter. The TR6 used a 69" cable though with or without overdrive and I see that TRF supplies the 69" cable if you look-up the 504948 part.

I goofed up and ordered one longer than needed. I've got almost 18" too much no matter how creative I get. Is it OK to just loop it to take up the extra length? I really don't want to order a new one at this point. the loop would be loose.

18" would be roughly a 6" diameter loop, which IMO is too tight for long life. But I guess you could run it that way until the cable fails, and then buy the right one :D

If you don't mind possibly having to replace the angle drive as well. Those things are rather fragile in my experience, and it might well fail first if the cable starts to bind up.

I'm sure your already doing this but from the drive straight forward all the way to the engine compartment. Then up and over the gearbox.
