Bruce,
LE means Limited Edition.
Since the car in question is in Florida and it is an '80, I would (quite safely) assume it to be a North American Pattern Limited edition.
They were built, as the name implies, for the North American Market in 1979 and 1980 Model years. They were all black Roadsters with a special steering wheel, a dash plaque on the glove box, special Aluminum wheels, a silver stripe and a Boot Rack. BTW, the only way you could get a black car in those two years was to buy an LE. (All LEs were black and all black MGBs were LEs)
In 1981 in England they marketed LE's in both roadster and GT versions they came in Gold with a silver stripe and silver with a gold stripe. These were all built in the last days of the plant from parts already in existance. IIRC they were actually built in 1980 and marketed as 81's. If you really care, I can look it up. or we can just wait...I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
