Hold On! Those are the only holes. There are no holes on the radiator side. I have no idea how the lines were routed beyond this point. I've seen spridgets with vertical oil coolers mounted in place of the fresh air vent. Maybe that is the purpose of the holes in the picture?

Was the oil cooler not a dealer or after market item. If so put the holes where they need to be.

Man, this becomes more puzzling the farther into it I get!

The hoses have to go through the radiator surround someway - & they have to go up high in it.

Would you please...I need to know how the oil cooler hoses get from out behind the grill through the front panel & then through the splash panel into the engine compartment.

I think Trevor's photo of his splash panel explains that side of the equation...now I'm just concerned about the grille side (unless your splash panel is different).

I bet he would know. I'm almost positive that it was a dealer add on (like Jack said). So I would think that you should just make reasonable choices and use period appropriate hardware (resist the urge to use nylon straps).

I have some pictures that may help. The one with the two drawn rings is from my 63 Midget, the other is a 71 Midget that I sold a while ago that had an oil cooler on it. The position of the hoses was above and to the left (as you face the front end)and above the heater intake.

PS The holes were around 1" in diameter.

Thanks, Jim....if you have the photos on your computer, us the "reply" button to form your post....down below the box where you type your message will be a tab labeled "File Manager"...click on it & then click on browse until you find the photos you want to attach....when you're done, click on "Done adding files"

They won't appear in your preview of the post but when you finish the post, they'll appear here (it might tell you that you have to resize them).

Tony, I don't quite understand your quandry! The picture Trevor posted (green car) shows the location of the two holes you need to punch through the panel to pass the oil hoses through! What other holes do you need besides them?

There still need to be holes punched in the nose cone sheet metal to get behind the grill. Unless he wants to remove one headlight and mount the oil cooler there. :wink:

:iagree: Right...there are 2 different panels involved...Trevor's photo show the location of the holes that would go through the red panel in my first 2 photos...there's still hole placement in the black panel in my 3rd photo....I think I know where to put them but just want to verify my thought.

GREAT, zimmy - just what I need...yours look like factory holes!!

1. Can you tell me how far apart they are, center-to-center?

2. And what's their diameter?

I think I can questimate how far they are from the top of the panel!!

3. Do your holes in the splash panel match those in Trevor's photo?

Bumped because that's wherre I'm working & need the photos for reference.

<span style="text-decoration: line-through">Also looking for the thread on the backside of the grille opening....if anybody knows where it is.</span> Found it.
