Well, I went on a week's vacation. Saw a lot of old US 99 in Oregon and Northern California, but, geez, the pain levels incurred were pretty bad.
I don't travel well anymore (fibromyalgia).
I get back, the Jag needs some attention.
Steering box worm shaft seal leaking (have a new one), and this HORRIBLE klunk, once in the morning, back out of the garage, hit the brakes, and ohmygawd.
I don't get under cars very well anymore, either.
So, I'm considering all sorts of things, maybe even having someone else look at it (which I don't do), thinking inner control arm bushings.
Uppers are a snap, lowers, well, I don't want to be working on my back, hands over head wrenching a spring compressor.
I'd looked at all the bushings six months ago when I had to open a lower ball joint and clean out hardened grease so I could get grease INTO it, and they were fine.
Jacked it up, stands, did the seal, not too bad....and it doesn't leak anymore.
All the A-arm bushings are just fine.
Good news!
So, where is the freaking noise coming from?
Poke, pry, inspect.....there are 4 mounts holding the suspension frame to the unibody.
Two saddle-type aft of the wheel line (all this stuff replaced by PO), and two in the front, 4 bolts hold them down, one LONG stud comes through it, through the outer plate, and a nut.
The plates have sheared from the rubber.
Cheap parts, easier to get to than bushings.....I am not nearly as depressed as I was this morning!
Noticed going to the hospital this afternoon and dinner afterwards, no "clunking" going over bumps, either......
So, life.
