I know its way off topic, but I've gotta say something good about them....I'm on my 4th pair of glasses from them (I get new glasses annually) & have not been happy with my current pair since I got them last October....finally went back today & took a pair of my old glasses & the ones I'm unhappy with & pointed out it appeared I was looking through an oily film....they checked & found out my glasses had a "glare inhibitor" on them...they checked to make sure I could use my old glasses; they took them apart, cleaned them, replaced the nose thingees & the ear thingees, adjusted them to fit me again & told me that when I got back from my trip to New York, my new 'October' glasses would be back with new lens without any films applied to them - & with a new set of magnetic sunglasses (sunglasses had a few scratches on them)!!

I got those things last October - almost a year ago - & just got around to complaining today...they didn't blink an eye about replacing them!! & I was expecting to pay for new lens!

Now, that's customer service....just had to say something good its so unusual nowadays!

Tony...that is good to know...I had to have cataract lens replacements done on both eyes earlier this year and my prescription has already changed 3 times first the right eye, then the left eye, now the right again. I saw they had a program for free eye exams for a 3 year deal as well....I'll probably try them on my next round...I had been using Walmart Vision Center....

My wife got her latest pairs of specs (Anne Klein) and shades (Ray-Ban) there and has been quite happy with them. She had some trouble with the shades sliding around on her face, and one of the people worked to adjust them for at least half an hour until they were right. She purchased the previous pair of specs at Sears Optical and never liked them much, and the hours at the store were just bad enough to make it hard to have work done on the glasses.

I love the Ray-Bans I bought there a couple of years ago, but the polarized lenses are starting to craze a bit and are out of warranty. I prefer the old Bausch and Lomb Wayfarer style to the new Luxxotica one as well, but it's just personal preference. Couldn't help but notice that Luxxotica jacked the Wayfarer price up quite a bit as well.

Now, I went to the optometrist the other day cause I hadn't had an eye exam in at least three years. Mom always said that visiting an optometrist was a guarantee that you'd need glasses. I do have a prescription. Can any of the experts out there tell me what it means?

Thank you,

wkilleff, good guestion, i got this info searching "eye doctor q&a", all eye perscriptions are an international standard number system as is described a -2.00-1.00x180 perscription means the minus (-) indicates near sightedness a plus (+) means farsightedness the (2.oo) indicates shearical refractive error, the second number in this case (-1.00) indicates astigmatism and the last number (180) is the direction of astigmatism, when i hit 40 years of age i went blind (just about) i was astounded at how bad my eyes had gotten in less then one years time i have twenty pair of "cheater" glasses and eight pair of perscription laying all around the place but still cant get accustomed to using/luging them around. oh yah search the page im guoting here and check it out youself i may have translated some of the info in error since i dont see so well any more. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

I'm not trying to highjack the thread or anything. I'm just trying to decide if I need to get the glasses. My prescription is different than it was three years ago at the time of my last eye exam. I wore those glasses while driving at night for about a year, then one night noticed that they no longer seemed to make a difference.

The conflict comes from feeling like I can see pretty well. Compared to the rest of my family, my vision is near perfect. Sometimes, reading a computer monitor can be a bit difficult, but not all the time. Night driving is not the problem that it was, but I still get headaches and migranes. Semi regular exercise has helped there, but it still happens.

I don't know how much these lenses would cost. Being the cheap Scots-Irish that I am, I'm just trying to figure out if the potential benefit would be worth the potential cost.

Tony:

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check them out as I am looking for new glasses this month and have not seen anything I've liked in any of the 3 places I've visited

(Why do all the new "stylish" glasses look like little narrow slits?....they don't fit my mug that well. I'm looking for "rounder" eyeglasses)

I just got my prescription done last week.....and it hasn't changed in 9 years (and both eyes are the same).

Lenscrafters was founded by E. Dean Butler, who is active in vintage racing and auto restoration. He is very active on the Racing History Forum which covers mainly vintage Indy cars, and spends most of his time living in England. Although he no longer owns the business, I found it interesting to see Lenscrafters come up in this thread on a forum pertaining to British automobiles. According to one bio of him, his first car was an MGTD, and he still owns that vehicle in his collection.

I like his logo - takeoff on Ettore Bugatti!

He needs to be one of our supporting vendors!
